36 refers to both aesthetic traditions of abstract painting and the structural approaches of early geometric films (such as those of Walther Ruttmann and Hans Richter). At the same time, other associations arise, such as early video games and their restricted movement, which was limited to the main axes. When watching 36, an unbelievable tension and concentration develops for the viewer, caused not least by the clarity of the concept and the reduction of the means. (Gerald weber)

Mixing old tech with new, these lyrical abstractions explore red-gold color fields created with photograms (direct exposure of film without cameras), then animated through 16mm rephotography and digital manipulation. Soothing and melancholy, Wills works in the aleatory-painterly tradition of Brakhage, but with sound: the tracks consist of classical music, spoken word, and altered bits of everyday noises. Floral images link her work to Victorian embroidery and other womanly parlor arts. (Ed Halte)
The story of a guy named Yura from the Minsk suburbs, who loves sucking locally-flavored soapy beer, staggers in search of work and tearfully sings while playing his guitar: "Chemistry, chemistry, you little wait for me and remember me." Having accidentally appeared on an opposition rally dispersed by police, Yura meets an activist of the "Beaver Youth" movement, which exists due to Western grants, and steals a cell phone from their office. And it falls into history, and more precisely, into the field of state interests of the Belarusian state. First, an American spy, and then A.G. Lukashenko himself, begin calling Yura. As a result, “Beaver” nominates a homeless president who has become the next owner of the ill-fated mobile phone, and Yura returns to his “little one,” drinking unbearable domestic beer and watching stupid TV shows.

These are the scoutmasters, the choristers, the bishops, and the home teachers–ward members who went about their daily work with the same diligence and passion that defined their generation. Drawing on hundreds of oral and written histories from Church leaders and veterans around the world, this stunning video chronicles the harsh realities of war and the miracles that seemed both abundant and ever present–the remarkable stories of Saints at War.

"Never My Soul" is a phrase taken from the cliché sentence the good-Turkish-girl character would say to her rapist in classic Turkish movies – "You can have my body but never my soul!" The film has at its center a transsexual who is pretending to be Turkan Soray, the real-life super diva of the Turkish Cinema, and her real life is similar to the melodramatic plot of a Turkan Soray movie. She was born as a boy, beaten up by her military father all throughout her childhood for exhibiting "effeminate" behavior, taken to psychiatrists at the age of thirteen to cure her sexual "deviance," then beaten up and tortured by an infamous Istanbul police chief. Now living in Lausanne, her kidneys have failed, she is on dialysis, and she has to live off of prostitution.

In The House of Equal and Opposite Reaction was a gift that I was reluctant to accept and even more reluctant to share until I did so accidentally, calming somewhat my mind and the minds of my unwitting audience. The majority of the footage was filmed from my rooftop on September 11th, 2001 with my super-8 camera, which was already loaded with film from my home movies (my dog, Myairo, whom I filmed in my home over a month prior.)

I booked a holiday in Tunisia: one week in a 3-star hotel, and spent the entire time there. The film subjects everything to my own point of view: the architecture, the beach with its umbrellas, tourists who are both present and absent, the sort of biding that such hotels tend to be, and the sea.

A dense montage of graphics, charts, and animations, Industrial Synth takes up the tradition of the experimental essay film and flattens it into an oblique composition that reflects on the technological and consumerist dimensions of Modernity. Negating cinematic elements of narrative, performance, and conventional signification, Price's video nonetheless conveys a sense of the pathos of a contemporary digital society, which, despite its promise of the new, relentlessly circles around issues of obsolescence and death.

Stan Douglas entitles his latest film "Journey into Fear". The work is based on two feature films by the same title: Norman Foster's 1942 war-time thriller and its remake, shot in Vancouver in 1975, directed by Daniel Mann. Whereas war-and-weapon espionage drives the plot in Foster's original film, Daniel Mann opted to substitute industrial espionage into the storyline of his remake, reflecting the changed world separating the two filmings of "Journey into Fear".
