What is the likelihood of both groups of pupils ending up in the same jobs, living in the same streets, and driving the same cars?" As we approach the end of the 20th century, what defines a person's class in modern Britain? Is it money, or breeding? To find out, Scene conducts a social experiment - inviting two pupils from a comprehensive school to swap places with two pupils from a public school. They will attend each other's classes, move in with each other's families, to get a sense of how how different or similar their experiences are. All four of these pupils see themselves as middle class. Despite seeing themselves as being in the same social class, 90% of the pupils attending the public school go on to third level education, compared with 20% from the comprehensive school. After a week, how different will the pupils find each others schools, homes and social lives? Will they still think they are middle class at the end of the experiment?

The lesser known follow-up to the broadcast that took place on Tucson's public access channel aired some time in the 90s at around 6:30pm. After the show aired, there was great controversy in Tucson over the graphic content. Perfidio was to be charged with obscenity but fled the state before the charges could be made. This is Lou's slightly longer, but tamer collaboration with fellow banned Public Access star 666Israel.

The rugged beauty of the Northumbrian coastline is the setting for this sharply-written short film about lust, revenge and inflatable sumo wrestlers. While walking along Hadrian's Wall, wounded traveller Sian hitches a lift from two men from the circus. She agrees to join their act but still seeks vengeance on her nemesis in nearby Seahouses. England's North East is bleak yet romantic in Ian Dodd's wonderfully dark comedy-drama.

Far from the sophistication and relative tolerance of urban centers, gay people are beginning to lead integrated lives in small towns throughout rural America. Danny Cooper has been upfront about his homosexuality since his teens. Now he lives openly with his lover. As the local mailman in a small Louisiana town, he has come to be accepted in a friendly and courteous manner by his neighbors. Although Danny has been through fights in school, was once fired fromhis job, and even evicted from his home, he has never failed to stand up for his right to be himself. In the end, he is changing the face of anti-gay prejudice in his town. Today, Danny is fighting his hardest battle-against HIV infection-withthe same openness and courage. And even though his T-cell countis near zero, he describes himself as "the luckiest human in the world."

Scliar, a painter of the world, immersed in the time of his silence. All that the artist sought to bring to the skin and heart of his painting is the inner vibration of every inhabitant of the world. The chromatic vibration does not come from the paints but from the land he harvests from each place he visits. Scliar used earth to give colour to his canvases.

Two women are in search of a home in the Southern California landscape. From the outside looking in, they see the single-family home as the locus of the exclusion of the other. It is also unaffordable. They both feel as if they are invisible citizens. They witness how the architectural landscape imposed on the California desert appears as a reversal of nature, where exclusive living, gated communities and segregation go hand in hand. They dream of escape.

HEREIN charts the movement from political activism to filmmaking through the metaphor of a dwelling. An FBI film obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, Emma Goldman's autobiography, the making of films on the Lower East Side in New York, street prostitution and drug addiction, all inflect the sense of place, space and history.
