Location, the gravel pit. Two adolescent women debate the premise, Whatever Is A Colour Is Necessarily Red, while their contemporaries cheer and heckle their efforts. The debate, Whatever is a colour is necessarily red, is a Buddhist classic written for very young students who merely have to memorize their parts. The purpose is to set the paradigm for unscripted debating and to instill the value of discussion. There is no winner or loser, only a challenger and defender who both desire to know the truth of something as revealed through the process. In practice monastic debating is a sport performed outdoors in front of an audience who cheers, hisses and boos often at any hesitation or incorrect responses. In my representation of the monastic debating I use the metaphor of throwing and catching a ball.

Primordial Dance is an experimental animation containing a progression of abstract textures and colours. It is a study of emerging and transforming mathematical equations. These effects were created using an interactive process of "artificial evolution." The artist and computer collaborate to produce images and movements that neither could easily produce alone. The computer generates and displays a collection of experimental abstract images. The artist chooses the most aesthetically interesting images, and those survive and are "bred" to produce a new collection of images.

In this later work, director Han Okhi returns to her origins as a scholar of Korean poetry to transform the verse of Han Yong-un (1879–1944)—popularly known as Manhae—into a collage of stunning “cinepoems.” Han’s short film features fifteen poems from the eponymous The Silence of Love, the only collection of poetry left to us by the iconic Buddhist, poet, and revolutionary. Since the collection’s publication in 1926, the subject, object, or identity of its central love has remained widely debated. As scholar and translator Francisca Cho discusses, these fluctuations in meaning—a lover? Manhae’s beloved homeland enduring Japanese colonial rule? Buddhist enlightenment?—resound in the malleability of the titular nim, a word that evokes love, lover, beloved, or, as Manhae proposes in the preface to his work, “everything yearned for.” Director Han Okhi takes on the formidable challenge of visualizing the manifold meanings of Manhae’s poetry through her signature experimental style.

Fauve is a paper film made by a unique paper process which I invented and have employed here as a monochromatic study of rhythm and mood and the physics of light waves leaving a source - one sees the red, or longest waves, first, the blue, or shortest waves, last, and in my film, one's left in the UV light world of peripheral vision. The original score by Peter Wetzler adds to the textural, tactile, visual experience of Fauve.

In Korea, when things go wrong in the household, the housewife may consult a shaman to determine if the problem is caused by an angry god or ancestor. The occupation of shaman is female dominated and holds a dual reputation in contemporary Korean society. In one respect, shamans are considered lewd women who promote superstition; in another, they are seen as keeping alive the religious ideals of the past. The film follows one woman's trials from when she felt destined to be a shaman through her two-day initiation ceremony. The emotional impact of the ceremony, which is apparent throughout, reaches a climax during the ritual of the 'knife riding general' in which the initiate stands barefoot on knife blades in order to receive the spirits and speak in their voices.

Deep South 1990: what changes and what does not. Whites of Their Eyes focuses on four people : Richard, a student at Tulane; Mack, a resident of Selma's projects, and Charlie and Verna May who trap and skin alligators. In the free form dialogue which emerges, each addresses complex issues with candor and humour, forming a mesh that belies standard notions of race, class and consumption.

The voice of what appears to be a film school teacher echoes on the screen. A film school teacher's voice echoes on the screen: "To be able to do anything is the same as not being able to do anything. The film is shot by the protagonist. There is a dizzying kaleidoscope of different perspectives, angles and movements, all based on the motif of the sphere. As if to counteract the teacher's harsh criticism and his own inherent anxiety about his own creation, the protagonist begins to turn the camera again, without hesitation. There is no coherent story, but rather an exposition of images that speak eloquently of the director's own mental landscape.

Makoto Amamitsu, a manga artist boy, is fascinated by Kotaro Takamura's "Chieko Sho". He wanders around trying to find his own Chieko and meets the woman of his dreams, Chako. But Chako rejects him and runs away. In pursuit of her, he turns himself into a black-cloaked immortal monster and falls into a world of madness and illusion. Makoto falls into a world of madness and fantasy, and assassins are unleashed on him. The hellish pilgrimage that stains the stage of Chieko Sho with blood finally comes to an end in the back streets of Ginza. In this literary, action, comic, suspense, and horror film, Nishigaya, who was a rugby player in high school and competed in the Hanazono (flower garden), charges ahead with the same power he had on the field. The nosebleeds that boldly flutter in the wind and Kotaro's poem that plays throughout the film cross over to create a unique entertainment that drags the viewer into a different dimension.

Dining at this wholly unconventional meal are witches, mothers, daughters, amazons, feminists, and lesbians--in short, women with more than bare breasts in common.

Baseball in the '70s was a decade of transition and innovation. It was a decade dominated by super teams: the Big Red Machine, the flamboyant Oakland A's, and the turbulent New York Yankees. We were treated to the final glory of Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, and Bob Gibson, and thrilled by the excellence of Tom Seaver, Reggie Jackson, and Johnny Bench. It was astroturf, the DH and polyester uniforms. It was Yaz, Pops, and Catfish. It was free agency, fantastic bloopers, and Fisk's home run. Baseball in the '70s, a decade of glory.

The film weaves the tale of Louie B., a hapless cowboy who thinks the world would be a better place if strangers would kiss each other more often. After a run-in with a band of crooks headed by Stacey, Louie goes blind. He is taken in by Billie Jean - a tough-love prostitute, and her colleagues - who are as gay as they are straight. What follows is a fabulously eclectic look into the life of an East Hollywood, Heydy Fleiss-style bordello for the working man, whose goal it is to liberate heterosexual social mores.
