A young graduate from the school of agriculture tries to modernize his poor village.

A movie about chickens and kids. The film was made in 1985, but screened only in 1990 for reasons that even Communist censors found hard to explain. A chicken farm that was very modern for its time included a kindergarten reserved for the employees’ children. The film uses the parallel between raising chicken and human babies as the starting point for a meditation on human nature.

That winter, no snow fell on Saint-Florent-le-Vieil. But it was very cold. According to custom, Aélia, the young bride, is pursued by the entire wedding party. She takes refuge in the church she has just left. Suddenly, she discovers the cold presence of a stone effigy. Months passed. Aélia seemed wary of her husband. The village gossiped. One day, she saw two white peacocks mating. The next day, she gave herself to the effigy. She was overcome with a sense of immense wonder.

Each of us, sentimentally speaking, has happened to have been at least once in our life, either a hunter or a prey, perhaps even without his knowledge. But what is the best role or simply the most convenient one at any given moment is difficult to establish. Sometimes it can even happen to be both, or to start off as hunters, only to find "prey". Of course, however, the opposite can also happen. Continuing undeterred in the territory of the desecration of pre-established roles, this time we have targeted (always with irony) another stereotype, that is, that which attributes to the woman the role of enemy, or at least antagonist of the homosexual.

Recording by Rai Milan of Adelchi staged by Carmelo Bene at the Teatro Lirico in Milan in 1984, with the Rai orchestra and choir for the bicentenary of Alessandro Manzoni's birth. Broadcast only once on Rai 2 on September 9, 1985.

A young man receives a telegram to attend his own execution at dawn. There may have been a mistake, but the office is closed and the truth cannot be found out. The mistake is masterfully mysterious and the sense of civic duty is so high that the candidate willingly puts his neck under the knife.

In 1985, Zacharias Kunuk broke the race barrier at Canada Council for the Arts when his Inuktitut-language video, From Inuk Point of View, was the first work by an Inuit or Aboriginal artist deemed eligible to apply for a professional artist's grant. Kunuk was the video's director and producer; Norman Cohn cameraman; Paul Apak Angilirq editor; and elder Pauloosie Qulitalik as narrator. By 1990, the four partners had formed Igloolik Isuma Productions Inc. to produce independent video art from an Inuit point of view. The video also features footage shot by Zacharias Kunuk, Paul Apak Angilirq and Simon Quassa, along with narration from three other well-respected Igloolik elders.

A thick fog envelops the village. Under its cover, there are thefts, suicides, and infidelities. When the fog rises, people panic. They have forgotten to live in the light. The priests begin to create a new fog.

This film belongs to a group of works that constitute manifestations of Robakowski’s engaged attitude towards social reality. Here, his interests focus on the rhythm of the city, the dynamics of passing cars, recorded with a fast-panning camera set at a single point. The video recording is accompanied by Robakowski’s voice, commenting off-screen, with constantly varying intonation and speed of uttering words, on what is happening in the street. The energy of the urban landscape is contrasted with the calmness of the space in which the camera is placed, which introduces a tension that reflects the author’s emotional state.

The author's inner world is revealed through her own narration, and the faceless "you inside" repeatedly crosses a crosswalk. The image leaves the screen and is projected everywhere—on the toilet, on the author's body, and on the "you of today."

Holidaymakers come to the old castle located in the mountains, converted into a holiday home aptly named "Valley of Happiness". When welcoming the new stay, the manager warns in advance that they must take into account the inconveniences resulting from the cold winter and the so-called objective difficulties.

A film full of humor that mixes animation, home movies and sequences shot in Chicago and in the People’s Republic of China, where the film-maker found some of her family.

At night, two patrol cars in front of a brightly lit bar. A man is arrested and taken to prison. A few streets away, a young woman has slit her wrists in her boyfriend's apartment out of lovesickness. Things that happen every day, everywhere, and yet nobody usually takes any notice of them.

In the mesmerizing Beach Umbrella, 1985, a shapely woman in a white bathing suit tears across the sand at a panicked clip, pursued by the Technicolor trio of the Three Caballeros. When the woman at last collapses, the cartoon characters descend, seething in a manic swarm over her body, a scene somewhere between a feeding frenzy and a gangbang. Once satisfied, the trio zoom off, allowing the woman time to stand before they begin the chase anew.

"This work was recorded during a live performance (1985) in front of an audience. It was created with custom built hardware and software in "real time" using a single b/w live camera input. The props used were retro-reflective sticks and wrist bands that were "waved" or "manipulated" [...] The music "Hikari" was not performed live. We worked live to the prerecorded track by Maggi Payne. She created it specifically for these performances." -ET

Mother Superior commits murder to save a soul from eternal damnation. Motel Capri was original material improvised as we went along. Scenes were concocted to suit the individual members of the class and my Catholic upbringing plus immersion in horror movies helped mold the plot. The class also was populated by students interested in splatter and macho cycle gear. Joyce Wieland, the Canadian artist and filmmaker is featured here as the mother superior. She was reading her lines in the Marlon Brando technique (they were pasted onto the face of her student co-star). – GK

Ek Daku Saher Mein is a 1985 film, directed by Kalidas and produced by Sundeep Kumar. The film stars Suresh Oberoi, Sarika, Amjad Khan, Ashok Kumar, Shakti Kapoor, Kalpana Iyer and Bharat Kapoor in lead roles. The film had musical score by Rajesh Roshan.

The last few years of collaboration with Schmelzdahin were mainly devoted to the chemical processes during and after the development of the film material. This led to a number of very interesting phenomena such as: shifting of the color balance within individual layers of color, etc.

Last abstract movie made by Veronesi. The work is obtained by working directly on the individual frames of the film. Veronesi developed a systematic method for the visual transposition of sound, fully exposed in some theoretical writings published in the 1970s.

No Voice Over is a story of communication and affection, focusing on the close ties between three women artists as they correspond via audio and video tape as they travel to Italy, Brazil, and Texas. All three have an off screen working relationship with a producer called Dix-Ten. The tape details a series of visions or second-sight experiences that one woman has about the other. These events are disturbing and seem to contain some ominous portent, which remains unclear until the end of the tape, when it is revealed that the visions are in fact premonitions of one of the woman's death.

"I have been working with found materials since 1980. For me the process has been similar to nostalgia. In both experiences there is an overwhelming desire to perfectly recreate the original. Although this seductive temptation is deadening and also impossible, it is nevertheless a powerful motivating force. In the midst of this tug-of-war between continual embrace and perpetual rejection, I created PICTURE BOOKS FOR ADULTS."
