With the frozen desert all about them, under the chill northern skies, a vast stretch of somber gray, they plighted their troth. He had left the wilderness of mortar and steel with its lights and sights and tears and sneers to come to this land of night, with its cold and gold, to cut through the white for the yellow beneath. And the girl, brave in her hope that his would be realized, had come with him. His goal was gold; and he took the trail. For days he searched it, and found only despair, then broke his leg. An old Indian found him, alone and suffering, and took him to his hut. For days he nursed the injured limb, and for weeks the wanderer loitered in the camp of the Indian. Never a word reached the girl. Then she received a letter from home, advising her that she had inherited a large fortune.

An unattractive girl endeavors to make herself attractive to an artist, but he sees only the artificial beauty of a model.

A young man accidently gets hold of a telescope, which he quickly finds good use for. First, he studies a woman’s slender ankles up close. Later, he peeks through a window at a girl getting ready at her dressing table. Soon, however, the police are after him and the fun is over. The preserved material is supposedly incomplete. Hjalmar leads a double life; during the day, he is a clerk at his father’s bank while at night, he leads a notorious gang known as “Heldet” (Fortune) to pay for his prodigious womanising and gambling. When “Heldet” knocks over his own bank, Hjalmar distracts the guard while the rest of the gang cleans out the vault, then he calls the police to allay any suspicion. But master detective Gorki is on the case, and Hjalmar might not have been as careful as he thinks. (stumfilm.dk)

Funnicus has made a futile endeavor all day to be cheerful, but conditions will not permit. Seeking forgetfulness, he took his despondent way towards Luna Park, and started to "do" the place thoroughly. An overplump dame was giving tense ear to the whispered warnings of a Gypsy sooth-sayer. An opportunity. Funnicus crossed the swarthy female's palm with much silver, and promptly slipped into her wrappings and place. The overplump dame was then regaled with a series of disclosures concerning her future affairs of the heart which brought Funnicus an unexpected clump on the ear. Funnicus, to mete out counterpunishment to the saucy lady, proceeded to chase her over the zig-gag stairways, windy passages, electric railways, sea wave track, automobile armchairs, etc. At last, to escape retaliation, he borrowed an attendant's costume and the Tzigane bandmaster's baton, one, two, three. The syncopated sounds begin their infectious course and everybody finds himself tripping the light fantastic.

Max relates to Mona, staying for the winter sports in Switzerland, that he killed a magnificent bear on the previous day, but that the dogs ate it, skin and all; but for that, concludes Max, Mona should have had his skin. Mona is sceptical, and insists that Max shall shoot another bear.

Old Joel Smith is charged with murder in the first degree. At the trial he pleads in opposition to his own lawyers. He explains that he is now too old to be of any assistance to his widowed daughter and his grand-children who are dependent on him for support. He says he prefers death to a life of poverty and wretchedness. In telling the judge and jury his pathetic story (which is shown on the screen) old Joel betrays a love for his grandchildren and his fellow laborers that is poignant with pathos.

Our young friend Jimmie forms a sudden attachment for a little waif in the streets whom he finds playing an accordion for alms. The little urchin late that night rises from his pallet and goes to serenade his new friend. Jimmie makes a rope of the bed-clothes up which clambers the ragged Archie. Disregarding the formalities of undressing Jimmie puts Archie in his own immaculate bed, dirty shoes and all, while he himself sleeps upon the mat like a faithful Towser. In the morning Jimmie hides Archie in a closet until he should have returned from school. In the evening when he arrives, the key to the closet is missing. There is an interchange of notes and Archie directs Jimmie to go to his nefarious companions who have the somewhat sinister occupation of second story men and tell them of Archie's imprisonment.

In 1913 early French film pioneer Victorin-Hippolyte Jasset died abruptly at the age of 51. His filmography of about 60 titles includes all film genres but is today mostly lost. He was particularly interested in detective or crime genres and with series like Nick Carter and Zigomar he is considered as one of the creators of the serial. The spectacular siege of Jules Bonnot's Gang at Choisy-le-Roi near Paris on April 28th 1912 inspired Jasset to make this 'Bandits en automobile'. French audiences recognized immediately the resemblances with the actual Bonnot Gang, a reason for which the film was prohibited in many cities.

Max is doing the Tango with Miss Leonora in a Berlin night club. Being impressed by the performance a german Baron asks him to give his family a dancing lesson. In the course of the evening Max gets drunk and is still fighting his hangover when he arrives at the Baron's house the next morning. Before the lesson Max asks them to follow his every move. But because of his condition he is making the weirdest gestures and all ends up in a great turmoil.

Cavalry manoeuvres held on July 27, 1912, by the Ticino river, in front of the Count of Torino: descent to the Ticino river, pontoon boats transportation, river crossing on horses. This event is documented in various film versions, held by different Italian archives, but with variations in framing, editing and length: probably in all probability, the event was filmed with more than one camera and then published with different editing.

A tour of the "ethno-geographical" and "zoological gardens" in Hamburg, Germany, which weaved the global ideas of the end of the century 19th century World's Fair.

Paul Bertho keeps a lion in his artist's studio, for the apparent purpose of eating his sofa, easel, canvas and hat. People come in to look at the artists work or sit for a portrait, but react to the lion.... much as I would, I imagine. Bertho seems to be mostly annoyed by it.
