Spring 1988: a cinematic chronicle of the small town of Zehdenick an der Havel in the Mark Brandenburg. Brickworks have determined the rhythm of life in Zehdenick for exactly 100 years. Seasoned brickmakers and young skilled workers speak frankly and critically about their working and living conditions and their futile efforts to improve them. The film is the first part of the Märkische Trilogie, which Volker Koepp shot "over the course of time about a brickworks in the small town of Zehdenick in the Mark Brandenburg. The very sensitively and atmospherically designed film was withheld by the GDR censors of the time. A depressing report about outdated production methods and disillusioned people."

Cornflower - a common weed in a rye field ... A modest bouquet of cornflowers, which is repeatedly given to survivors, mating couples and all those who want to be modestly and dignified. Rye flowers also commemorate the deceased. The image of a cornflower almost always appears on the rosy rugs of Muhu and Western Estonia, and elsewhere in the embroidery of folk costumes. The cornflower is the national flower of Estonia - a symbol of a rich life.

A landmark celebration of one of Christian music’s most powerful voices, Sandi Patti In Concert captures the multi‑Grammy and Dove Award–winning vocalist at the height of her career during her acclaimed “Praise Glorious” World Tour. Filmed live before a capacity crowd at Dallas’ Reunion Arena, this 1989 concert film blends Sandi’s signature vocal artistry with full orchestration, dramatic staging, children’s ensemble features, and heartfelt storytelling that defined her late‑80s era. Featuring many of her most beloved songs—including “In the Name of the Lord,” “Let There Be Praise,” “How Majestic Is Your Name,” and the fan‑favorite Finale Medley—the performance showcases why Patti was widely known as “The Voice” of contemporary Christian music. The concert also includes a special appearance by singer‑songwriter Billy Crockett, who performs “Portrait of Love.”

We gathered at the Shinjuku Sports Center, located between Shinjuku and Takadanobaba. It was just before the “Great Funeral Reception” of the Emperor Showa after his death, and the police were on high alert. Of the 12 participants, 6 were former members of the video street gang. Of the 12 participants, six were former members of the video street gang, and another six were from Hokkaido, so it was an uneven training session. I was also very hungover and spent most of the morning in the bathroom throwing up all over the place, which was a big turn-off for me.

"MORGAN’S CAKE is the story of a young man (Morgan Schmidt-Feng) about to turn 18, and all the problems that are set to befall him. His girlfriend is pregnant, he’s just lost his job, his mother is deserting him for a career move to New York City, and his divorced dad (Willie Boy Walker) can barely afford the small office space in which they live. Morgan’s most pressing problem is whether or not to register for the draft, and Walker, in a bravura performance, shares a real-life story of how he avoided military service in the late 1960’s. After a series of fateful encounters, Morgan finally saves his sanity by baking a cake." (from Fandor.com)

On Tomb Sweeping Day, in 1988, a film crew set out for the monument of the Tangshan earthquake to shoot a memorial ceremony for the victims. This marked the beginning of shooting for a documentary called "The Great Earthquake." The crew continued to shoot through the rest of 1988, even staging a large-scale rock 'n' roll concert and performance art event on the Great Wall, and into 1989, including footage shot at the famous 1989 Avant-Garde Art Exhibition, where one artist fired two gun shots at her exhibit. More footage was shot during the Tiananmen protests, up until the events of June 4th shut down production for good. Shortly before, a two-hour "rough cut" was assembled by main director Wen Pulin and Assistant Director Hao Zhiqiang, which screened only once (and is preserved at University libraries in the U.S.). The footage has been recycled in some of Wen's later films, notably "China Action," but "The Great Earthquake" itself was never finished.

Linda Gibson revisits the emotional disturbance produced by her early fascination with patriotic symbols and rituals. She assembles a patchwork of scenes around discrepancies between democratic rhetoric and the reality of racial exclusion, mingling a child's diary entries, stills and home movies, printed texts, street interviews with people attempting to define the meaning of the American flag, and a medley of physical routines in which idiosyncratic dance movements collide with stylized variations on saluting. "Flag" flickers with the uncertainties of memory, the evocation of a child's credulous view of equality tempered by an adult knowledge of social hierarchy and oppression. -- Paul Arthur

You can hear tape recordings of Hans Bunge in conversation with Hanns Eisler.
