Valmar Adams (1899-1993), writer and literary historian with artistic nature, has played an important part as a mediator of Russian literature and culture while working in the faculty of Russian language and literature at the University of Tartu during 1931-1974. First poems in Russian and German were published already in 1915. However, his hot-bloodedness often caused trouble. "Jun'ichi Okuyama is a cinedoer." Jun'ichi Okuyama plays making a film from the material and accidents that gradually disrupt the natural recording of the camera. It all starts and ends with the noise of the projector. Landscape sequences gradually undergo interference and rhythmic interruptions of one hand, of a reel in motion and then of a crack passing through the photogram from one side to the other, are all tangible signs of the presence of the filmmaker. The universe breaks up and recomposes in this back and forth between reality and its "in the movie" reflection.

Zilnik's 102 minutes long TV series is about a couple of guys, one good and naive, the other liar and manipulator, trying to make a living the best they can...Along the way they meet a guy who eats glass, metal and plates, then a couple of strippers, and a lot of ordinary people. Zilnik's dry realistic approach is filled with humour and documentary parts with some real peasants and working-class people.

It deliberately and almost completely dispenses with verbal statements, allowing atmosphere and original sound to speak for themselves. The clip-clop of (police) horses' hooves, the sound of the engines of police vehicles, of helicopters and water cannons, of walkie-talkies as well as video camera surveillance and the distribution of truncheons on the one hand, and the heaving crowd of fans, their pleasure, their disappointment, their shouts of support. The chronological record of a - peaceful - day of soccer does not apportion blame, without comment and stimulates discussion weather the "special police assignment" is really necessary. —JK

Collaborating with choreographer Elizabeth Streb, Lucier constructs a suite of dances in which the human figure is abstracted and isolated within a natural landscape. Structured in three segments, the work suggests the evolution of a mythical being moving from a black void to a natural landscape, and then into an aerial world. Fragmenting and isolating the physical body in space, or in relation to simple elements of landscape, Lucier evokes themes of confinement, the struggle to defy gravity, and a metaphorical desire for transcendence.

Out of the Ashes is a powerful and evocative work which utilises pagan and christian images to explore the mythologies of blood and fire, taboos around menstruation and the persecution of witches.

A reading by the artist of his spoken word/new music composition Between the Light and the Dark forms the backdrop for this experimental video. Sounds are obtained by bending and shaping sampled voice signals and non-traditional instrumentation. Layered and processed images of his solitary figure and the sea, of open hands and gravestones, flow into and through each other in a dreamlike tableaux of richly evocative colour.
