Cinematic Era: 1983 Vintage

Ron Tandberg is Australia's best known political cartoonist. This film follows through Tandberg's work on the front page of the Melbourne 'Age' on one particular night's edition. This document is significant for its depiction of the production of a broadsheet newspaper (including it printing) in 1983 and the dramatic change in production since computerisation was introduced shortly afterwards.

One-point perspective visual path across the US beginning inside a linear accelerator or atom-smashing device and traveling to such high-energy locations as the home of an ancient sun calendar in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico; the site of Ohio Valley Mound cultures; the Golden Gate and Brooklyn Bridges; and beyond. Scientists have noted that light rays curve at the outer edges of the universe, leading them to theorize that time also bends. Inspired by this idea, Hammer used an extreme wide angle lens and "one frame of film per foot of physical space" to simulate the concept of bent time.

Kundan (RomeshSharma) is the only son of a wealthy father (Gajanan Jagirdar), but Kundan keeps bad company, namely that of Ajit (Dheeraj Kumar), who gets him drunk and also takes him to brothels. Getting habitual of visiting brothels, Kundan gets attracted to Gulabbai (Aruna Irani), and wants to marry her, much to the anger of the brothel madame, Ratnabai (Chand Usmani). Rajesh is another of Kundan's friend, and his father's employee, he is of good and sober habits, but Kundan generally ignores and mocks him. Rajesh meets with Kamini (Zarina Wahab), the only daughter of a very wealthy man, Shankerlal (Pradeep Kumar), and both eventually fall in love. Kamini's stemp-mother wants her to marry Ajit, and Shankerlal does not approve of Rajesh, for he knows that Rajesh's mother is a prostitute. Will Kamini continue to have the same love for Rajesh, despite his parentage? Is Rajesh's mother really a prostitute?

The hero of this film toiled was a lighthouse keeper before Korea's liberation in World War II. He suffered many indignities and mistreatment by the Japanese, who were then occupying Korea. After the liberation, he leads a better life, and despite his advanced age, he keeps the lighthouse in full working order, in devotion to his country and doesn't rely on recognition or praise. Lighthouse is a quiet revolution drama, which makes it clear that a meritorious fate can also stand behind an unassuming person.

Pink Floyd released a 19-minute "video EP" in 1983 for The Final Cut, essentially four music videos in a continuous sequence, directed by Willie Christie, who was Roger Waters' brother-in-law. Scottish actor Alex McAvoy, who played the teacher in the film version of The Wall, had a prominent role in the video EP. Waters appears (though all but his mouth is silhouetted) as a patient singing the lyrics to a psychologist on the grounds of the Fletcher Memorial Home.

Mama Woju's Trampersong changes the characters: Not the Tramper waits for the "Transit", but he gives the businessman, who is waiting beside the street a ride.

New quick montage based on the colors of white, red, and yellow objects encountered on my way, scenes from a snow day covered in red felt: we find the team of cameramen from GOVERNMENT CENTER and a view of the painting studio, with a close-up of the head of a painting of a nude, which alternates with the white tarpaulin flying into the blue sky. I was having fun pretending I was using a machine gun.

Great Days in the Rockies is a film on an early Rocky Mountain photographer, Byron Harmon. Renowned for both his ingenuity and his technique, Harmon made a good living taking and selling his photographs, which depict the characters and events of early Banff. At present, 6 500 negatives of his work are held at the Peter Whyte Archives in Banff.

A young filmmaker tries to gain a very personal and spontaneous picture of the city from the fragmentary biography of figures from the West Berlin youth scene.

The film is about a teenager who wants to get rich easily and, because of his greed, ends up in ridiculous situations.

Elchin's appointment as the deputy director of the institute causes events to be controlled mechanically and by invisible forces, presenting the character of Vasif, who was mentioned only in name in the first part, in a new context. Returning to the institute, Elchin meets Gulnar again, and rumors are intertwined again.

It is an evocative picture of the lives of members of subcultures and people from the social margins: punks, anarchists, hippies, drug addicts - all those who could not and did not want to adapt to the prevailing order. Their attitude and motives were brilliantly characterised in the film by one of the priests working with these young people.

Stalag is an abbreviated term from the German “Stammlager”, which referred to a field of military prisoners of war during World War II. In Guatemala, almost forty years later, the term Stalag acquires a new dimension. The model villages were spaces in the Guatemalan rural areas where they forced thousands of civilians, previously terrorized by government brutality led by Ríos Montt. Likewise, the Civil Self-Defense Patrols (PAC), a paramilitary apparatus still in force in Guatemala, marked the last detachment in the damaged social fabric of Guatemala. As in Headline Today: Guatemala and in Armored Daydreams, Mikael Wahlforss presents us in Stalag Guatemala the testimonies of victims and perpetrators without makeup and without distortion of the facts. The anecdotes of one and the other flow across the screen transporting the viewer to that Guatemala in which men, women and children are indifferently victims and witnesses of state repression.

When a love story begins, differences, negative character sides, personal needs, are immolated on the altar of love…. Then, over time, everything inexorably resurfaces on the surface. One rediscovers with amazement one's own individuality, which seemed to have been diluted by love, relentlessly reaching the crossroads of transmutation. Then the veils of sentiment that concealed our tendency to individualism from ourselves become more and more transparent, revealing us sadly selfish and unrealistic beings. At that point comes the "big opportunity". Accept and be accepted for who we are, beautiful or ugly ... good or bad... in short, us. Paradoxically, at that moment we realize that everything was clearer, right from the start.

New Caledonia is a country divided. The largest community is Melanesians, self-styled “Kanaks” who make up 43 per cent of the population. They want independence from France. On the other side are the French and locally born Caledonians, supported by immigrant Polynesians, who want to retain links with France. This film outlines the political conflict that has led to tension and violence over the years. It takes a look at two politicians representing each side and reveals something of the Kanaks, with their tribal social structure, and the Caledonian French, who are more concerned with economic progress.

"I thought of disassembling one second by sticking opaque scotch tape on 8mm films to shut existing images. How much information can we put in 1/24 second? How much can we perceive? As a result, I felt that one single second was a surprisingly long time! An image on a frame caused an afterimage in the total darkness. Is an afterimage formed somewhere between our perception and memory?"

In the Sky's Wild Noise is based around an interview with Walter Rodney, the renowned Guyanese historian, author and political activist, who was assassinated in 1980. The interview-which was filmed in 1976, when the Victor Jara Collective were shooting their first documentary, The Terror and The Time-is intercut with archival footage, and explores the political, social, and economic conditions of the working class in Guyana in the 1970s.

Design 2084 is a piece of lost media that surfaced online on August 3, 2019. It was posted to YouTube by user Josh Hadley in an attempt to gather information and preserve the film.

It presents the struggle of the first unionized workers, after a strike for the implantation of the eight-hour day and the union right, in the sugar valleys of Peru. It is the story of the first union in the city of Trujillo, organized in 1921.

The young Greek filmmaker Menelaos Carayannis made some films for the Film Works before returning to Athens and establishing himself as a documentary filmmaker. The promise is an unassuming but poignant short film about a Greek family in Stockholm and about the double loyalties of the exile situation: Will they return to Greece or stay in the new country?

Archival '50s erotica, well edited, that will be cherished forever

An engaging and enlightening documentary about Jeff Keen shown on Channel 4 in 1983. Features Keen performing in front of his film projections as well as talking about and showing his work in different media.

Mutiny employs a panoply of expression, gesture, and repeated movement. Its central images are of women: at home, on the street, at the workplace, at school, talking, singing, jumping on trampolines, playing the violin. The syntax of the film reflects the possibilities and limitations of speech, while “politically, physically, and realistically” flirting with the language of opposition.

The images in this film come from an extensive collection of out-dated raw stock that has been processed without being exposed, and sometimes rephotographed in closer format. Each pattern of grain takes on its own emotional life, an evocation of different aspects of our own being.
