The Time-Slice camera was first devised in 1980 by Tim Macmillan at Bath Academy of Art during his BA. Fine Arts degree course. Originally a painter, Macmillan was interested in combining Cubist theory with contemporary technology. Initially using hand-made photographic emulsions and photo grams, he went on to create a series of cameras creating multiple viewpoints of a space which were then collaged together. The multiple camera concept then made a lateral leap to being applied to cine film. The first camera involved a length of 16mm film negative, clear Perspex spacers providing a focal length and a strip of opaque 16mm cine magnetic tape with a pinhole drilled into each frame. A simple shutter over the magnetic tape then provided the means of exposure. The result was a tracking shot through a space. The profound revelation was that while the viewer experienced a move through space, time was frozen. A paradox!

Danny has just received a computer as a gift and is intimidated by what he perceives to be an enormously complex and alien piece of machinery. Falling into a deep sleep, Danny is visited by his computer who proceeds to explain why he shouldn't be afraid of computers. Starting with identifying the similarities between a typewriter and a computer keyboard and stressing that a computer is nothing more than an information processing machine that combines, sorts, and rearranges numbers, the program quickly dispells much of the mystery surrounding this increasingly important part of our lives. By speaking in simple terms, we are made to understand that the computer is basically dumb until it receives direction from a human operator.

Queena Stovall of Lynchburg, VA died in 1980, age 92. She was an authentic, self-taught American folk painter who took the everyday life she knew in rural Virginia and rendered it in paint with insight and sophistication. In this sole film portrait of the artist, her work becomes more complex upon closer inspection as we see that not only are the lives of southern whites depicted with skill and affection, but those of neighboring blacks are portrayed with equal fidelity. She saw life in realistic terms; for example, Christmas wasn\'t cherubs and chubby-cheeked Santas, it was hog-killing on a cold winter\'s day. Her grandmother gave her the nickname “Queena” based on a child’s attempt to pronounce Serena. She married Jonathan Breckenridge “Brack” Stovall in 1908; they had five sons and four daughters. The Stovalls lived at various times in Lynchburg and nearby Elon.

Rodel (Philip Salvador) was saddened and can't believe the news he received that his father from the province is already dead. His father is working as a cook in the mining field owned by Don Gonzalo (Vic Diaz). Rodel was told that his father's death was an accident. He can't possibly believe that. As he went home, the drive and determination to find out what is the truth behind the mysterious death of his father is in his heart. Though, he never thought that faith will give him along his conquest for truth, a woman that will conquer his heart.

The Action Centre is Johannesburg’s only black theatre. The accent here is put on the collective work of the members of the Centre to create and to keep this very different kind of cultural centre going.
