Cinematic Era: 1938 Vintage

The film exhibited the community and the beach, "how I new and it was shown to me" (Manoel de Oliveira) by the Meneres family, that had a house in Miramar. The film is currently lost.

After he neglects his work, the phone operator Osman is fired for being preoccupied with his sweetheart, the maid Yasmina. When he goes to a new job, he discovers that everyone has him confused with Ali Bey, the company's owner, due to their resemblance, a fact that he exploits to his advantage.

Cinderella, with some modern touches: The Brooklyn-accented Cinderella is on the phone to her girlfriend Sadie telling her about the ball. The fairy godmother looks like 'Mae West'; the dancers at the ball jitterbug; the prince looks and acts like Harpo Marx. At the end, when the prince drops by with the slipper, the fairy godmother reappears to claim both the slipper and the prince.

Mr. Durand is bored in his relationship. He takes a mistress but does not take long to return to his wife, a little because he is sad, a little also because he has affection for her, but above all out of selfish habit.

Bimbi, aka Takács Klára is unemployed. She lives in a sublet and has no idea how she will live and pay her bills. But luckily for her, the previous tenant, who had a letter of recommendation for the director of Tormássy Works, has now been put in a mental home. So he can apply for a job with the "unused" letter of recommendation. Since the letter says that the "lady with a bit of a bug" will not get a job, she can go to the son of the CEO as a typist's assistant.

The village is preparing for the celebration of Mihály Sámson's entry to the Vitéz Order. There's a great competition for roles in the amateur theatrical performance, and the choir is practicing. Two girls compete for the attention of Gyula Kopácsi, the railway traffic controller: Jolán, the postal clerk, and the pastor's daughter, Sárika. Jolán's mother spreads rumors during the rehearsal of the performance that Kopácsi has already proposed to her daughter, even though he's actually leaning towards Sárika. However, at the celebration, Sárika and Sámson notice each other...

Resolute Ellen takes over the operations of the Grand Hotel "Paradise" from her father and immediately goes into action to increase profits. The first thing she does is turn off the flow of money to a theatre her father was financially sponsoring. Then she throws the charming flirt Count Wetterstein out on his ass after not having paid his hotel bill for two weeks. The alleged count takes on a position as a waiter in the "Paradise" and as Ellen has, in the meantime, fallen for him, she puts him in a managerial position, where he can't so easily flirt with other women. But Wetterstein is being pursued both by the police and creditors and disappears in quick order once again.

Sally Newton is in love with Lee Sullivan, a young tenor singer with Johnny Johnson's Orchestra, but her father prefers a stuffy young clerk as her suitor. She makes him taker her to the nightclub where Lee sings. Lee has arranged for Sally to elope with him, his song "Let's Take It on the Chin" being the signal for her. But the clerk has hired a tough gangster to keep Lee from singing.

The scene is set at Billy Rose's Casa Manana Revue, filmed at the Fort Worth Frontier Fiesta (1937), an enormous production created as part of the Texas Centennial civic celebrations. The opening song, "The Night Is Young And You're So Beautiful" emanated from the first edition of the Revue and became a hit song on two continents in 1936.

Hikmat disguises herself as a man after her brother suffered a tragic accident while on his way to start his work. She pretends to be teacher for the children of the Pasha instead of her brother. Hikmat gets to know the children whom she teaches and becomes Mr. Hikmat.

Using the moon’s rays, Professor Harnam invents a potion that turns man into a murderous beast. His brother Professor Vaman, realizing the dangers of this invention, realizes the urgent need of producing an antidote to avoid disaster. However, it is too late as Harnam’s daughter drinks the potion during a quarrel with her lover Detective Kishore and the city begins to witness a murder spree amongst its elite and wealthy citizens.

A 20th Century Fox Magic Carpet of Movietone travelogue short released in December 1938, depicting Scandinavian “Viking” history and landscapes. Produced as part of Fox’s long-running newsreel/travel series, the film later gained historical significance as a source of stock footage in Frank Capra’s World War II propaganda documentary Divide and Conquer (1943). Barnouw notes its inclusion among the “bits of European history” repurposed by Capra, and Frank Capra’s Eastern Horizons likewise cites Viking Trails—alongside Warner’s Escape From Crime and Paramount’s The Avengers—as source material.

After many years, three friends are to meet in Prague. The magician Marek was in America and, together with his nephew Tonny, they are bringing back their hard-earned money to their homeland. The factory owner Brejcha lives alone. His wife and daughter drove him to bankruptcy and abandoned him. The eternal student Netušil arrives from the countryside with his loving wife, the owner of a greengrocer's shop, and his daughter Anča. In the meantime, the creditors have completely evicted Brejcha's villa. Marek mentioned in a letter that he would like to marry his nephew to Brejcha's daughter. Little did he know, in order to help Brejcha, he comes up with a plan. His wife and daughter will become Brejcha's family and the money received from Marek will help the bankrupt factory owner pay off all his debts.

The harvest of a pre-war British farm.

Before his political career, Urho Kekkonen (1900–1986) was an athlete on the national level. Later he served as head of the Finnish Olympic Committee. The earliest film fragments of Kekkonen can be found in sports films, where he visits the Finland-England and Finland-France national athletics matches in 1933 and the Finnish Athletics Championships in 1938.

A thief, after robbing a bank, meets by accident an aristocratic woman who asks for money to help an elderly asylum. They fall in love despite belonging to two different worlds.

Some cute forest animals get their revenge by fighting a war on some racist hunters.

Thakur’s music-dominated debut tells of a love triangle involving the famous gramophone singer Sundardas (Surendra) who is happily married to Mohini (Prabha), and the even more popular singer Tilottama (Bibbo), who falls in love with Sundardas’s voice and wants them to sing a duet and have an affair. Ghosh Babu (Advani) is the manager of the record label.

The ducks and chickens next door eye the Captain's garden covetously through a poorly mended fence. The Captain, armed with a board, is standing guard (but not fixing the fence). He falls asleep, and the poultry attack, stripping the garden methodically. When the Captain comes after them, they lock him into a shed. He gets out, and fetches his shotgun. That stops them, and they drop their booty, until the Captain sets his gun down to collect the veggies; the birds all rush in, snatch them back.

Puddy goes to a circus where he watches the various acts, but misinterprets Apaché dancing canines as an assault on the girl. He beats up the boy. Incredibly, everyone cheers this egregious bit of audience participation.

Leith Stevens leads his orchestra in a nice assortment of standards in a variety of musical styles, including Dixieland and swing. Mr. Stevens was a popular orchestra leader of the era who later became a musical director for an assortment of television shows and his facility with more than one style of music, so important for his later career, is much in evidence here.

Two brothers, Bill and Wally Winter, become infatuated with a gold digger, Nina Bellamy. She persuades them to ask their wealthy father, Sir James, for ₤10,000 so Bill can produce a stage show and Wally a movie, both starring Nina. Sir James discovers the truth about Nina and gives his son the money, provided they leave town in secret for one month to write their shows and that they only use new talent.

A fly and his girl go to an insect nightclub, but a spider crashes the scene to kidnap the girl.

Marika is adopted by Orbán Sándor after his wife dies. However, when she reaches the age of 19, he discovers she is more attractive than any of the women he knows. There are a few complications before Marika realizes that her foster father, Orbán, will make a better husband than any of the young men that are courting her.
