Cinematic Era: 1936 Vintage

Intended as a cinematic proof for the shared destiny of the German woods and the German people beyond the vicissitudes of history, Ewiger Wald portrays a perfect symbiosis of an eternal forest and a likewise eternal people firmly rooted in it between Neolithic and National Socialist times.

In 1936, Eugeniusz Cękalski produced a series of art reportages called Tańce polskie (Polish Dances), which consisted of four films: "Kujawiak", "Highland Dances", "Cracow Dances" and "Silesian Dances". The entire series made its way to Great Britain before the war (it was prepared in an English-language version for foreign distribution), thanks to which it has been preserved to our times. "Polish Dances" are rejects and working materials for these films.

In the meantime, Ernő's feelings change, and he meets Kálmán's sister Piroska, whom he would prefer to marry. The Colonel, whose planned marriage to Countess Serémy was prevented by her mother when he was young, refuses to hear of it.

A Chinese-American aviator falls in love with an opera star named Fan in San Francisco. A jealous theater manager named Jung intervenes, threatening to send the opera star back to China

The Turin noblewoman Maria Clotilde di Bard, the sole and elderly heir to an ancient Savoyard title, is reduced to living in the attics of the palace due to the embezzlement of a dishonest administrator. The young lady, who has always been alone due to a great love that never led to marriage with Baron Nigra, befriends the daughter of the palace owner, who tells her about her love for an aeronautical engineer: an unhappy love, because her father is against it. Maria Clotilde discovers that the young man is her brother's illegitimate son, taken away at an early age and never recognized, and therefore the sole heir to the Bard name. The shady administrator also ruins the new owners, who find themselves penniless. But in a trunk kept by the damsel there is years of correspondence between her and Baron Nigra, whose immense historical value restores the Bard family to its former glory and thus allows for a happy ending with the marriage of the two young people.

On a ship traveling to Egypt, Burhan kills Amina Hanem to steal her jewelry that the jeweler Cohen had offered her. However, the girl Nahid, who looks like Amina, sees him and orders him to return what he stole to Cohen. She wears Amina's clothes to impersonate her, in exchange for not exposing his crime. In Egypt, Nahid meets Amina's husband, pretending to be his wife. Amina's husband discovers the truth and fights with Burhan. In the fight, Enayat, Amina's husband's lover, is injured. He kills Burhan to make it look like Burhan killed Enayat and then committed suicide. Amina's husband lives with Nahed pretending to be his wife.

In the first light of day, one can see a mountain farm close to the forest. Nothing stirs far and wide. Suddenly, a figure comes out of the forest, running quickly to the farm. There's a quick grab and the hunting rifle is hidden in the gutter. There's a jump to the window sill: Obermeier Martl creeps like a cat into his room. No one's seen him. At the same time, the doorbell rings at Doctor Rauch's place. The hunter's mate Hias is standing outside. "Doctor, you have to bandage me: I've been shot!" By whom, he doesn't know.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is running a children's revue at his theater. A bull pup is anxious for his time on stage and sabotages the earlier acts.

After meeting a self-important turkey, the chick also becomes conceited and decides to make his name in the world outside the chicken coop. After being nearly killed by birds, fish and a cat, he returns home chastened and decides to stay where he is.

In Annemarie Brinkmann's small German village all the young men are recruited to the front in WWI. When her boyfriend Klaus Renken gets the call they spend their last romantic night together. Time goes by but one day when the pastor announces the names of the fallen villagers: Klaus is among them. Annemarie collapses while the congregation sings a funeral song.

A teacher who has secluded herself in a small town is harassed by a commissioner.

La Marquise de Pompadour desires the best tenor in France for her opera company, and after an extensive search in the provinces, Chapelou is selected and forced to leave his bride-of-an-hour to go to Paris. Alfer seeing the handsome tenor, the Marquise decides not to let his bride, Madeliane, join him in Paris. Graf de Latour, banished from the court for his bawdy song about La Pompadour, goes to the town where Chapelou has left his bride and sees an opportunity to get even. He takes Madeleine in hand and after exhaustive grooming and make-over he returns to court with her as his banishment has been lifted, and Chepelou, failing to recognize hie own wife, falls in love with her.

This is the full ten minute film from which the Russ Morgan "Meet The Bandleaders" segment was created on video in the 1980s. It features Russ in his first year, singer Linda Lee, and Lewis Julian, a former NBC page boy. Also featured is 22-year-old Billy Fisher on saxophone and clarinet (in front of the bass drum), who later played with Al Donahue and the CBS Orchestra. He was later the arranger for the Ed Sullivan and Jackie Gleason shows and the Tony Awards.

The first of the series of shorts, featuring magazine-and advertising illustrator and syndicated cartoonist Jefferson Machamer, produced by Educational Pictures, for 20th Century Fox distribution, as Educational Pictures did not operate exchanges of their own. The title for this initial entry was taken from his longest-running strip, "Gags and Gals" of the several he did. This one featured, as did the others in the series, various NYC models and actresses posing in bathing suits, and various stages of getting undressed and getting dressed. Since this was 1936, those stages were usually the beginning and the end of the process.

Footage includes shots taken at the Jaffa port and on various kibbutzes of the time; Lerski's expressive style creates an almost mythic image of the Jew in Palestine, toiling and triumphing amidst the sweeping desert landscape.
