Cinematic Era: 1916 Vintage

This lost WWI documentary appears to be about the German zeppelin attacks on Londonon September 2nd, 1916.

Jack Marston is the sheriff of a western town and Jennie, his sister, is postmistress and operator at the stage station. Among the inhabitants of the town is an Indian breed. An outcast from his own people, he is looked down upon by the race of his adoption, although his education has included a college course. The express company has posted a reward for the apprehension of one Apache Kid and his band of fellow robbers. The next night the band arrive in the town and hold up one of the main saloons. Peggy, a dance hall girl, takes the fancy of the leader, the Apache Kid, and he abducts her and takes her with them when they make their escape.

Lizette (Mary Miles Minter) is an orphan girl who is known to be very innocent. One day, the wealthy Henry Fauer (Eugene Forde) adopts her after seeing her selling news papers. She is now raised in his enormous mansion and is introduced to the posh life. Lizette, however, doesn't know how to deal with it and has no idea about acting like a real society woman.

Unknown to Kelsey and Ryan, two prominent actors, the show troupe to which they are sent by their booking agent, was driven from town by the Constable and his deputies. While waiting for their train the two actors stepped into the depot lunchroom and are seen by Rube and Ben, both out of employment. Rube and Ben steal the actors' suitcases, their wallet containing two dollars, their railroad transportation and their contract to join the troupe for which they are leaving. The actors finding their suitcases and wallet gone and being unable to pay for the food they have eaten, are detained by two roustabouts of the lunchroom long enough for Rube and Ben to leave on their train, and are then thrown out.

A Close Call is a silent Western

On the morning of her 11th birthday, Joyce reads in one of her gift books that she should perform a good deed. After giving the $5 gift to an old man in the park her mother reprimands her and warns her that old men steal little girls. She goes to the park the next day to see if this is true. Her old friend assures her it isn’t, and she invites him to come to her home. Hiding him in the attic she hears the story of how he left his little girl with friends’ years before, and when he returned, all trace of her had been lost. When Joyce’s parents return the old man recognizes Mrs. Farley as his long-lost daughter much to the delight of all except Joyce, who pouts that she can have nothing of her own without others sharing it. So, she invites a host of human derelicts in to dine, insisting that they too have lost their little girls.

Mr Vang, a clerk, has just moved into the fourth floor of a block of flats – and he has already gained a reputation as something of a troublemaker. The woman, a professor’s wife, who lives just below his flat has so far only been indirectly acquainted with him in the form of stomping feet and noise lasting into the small hours. She hopes to meet him face to face soon so that she can give him a thorough talking-to – and her wish is about to come true in a quite unexpected way. Bob Deering on his way to business meets his sweetheart, Molly Sherman. He arrives at Milliken and Co., stockbrokers, his place of employment, just in time to save Herman, Zalmon Pinsker's 14-year-old son, from a very rough engagement with the other messengers in the office. For this act Herman takes him to his father's shop and obtains a suit at wholesale, and it is here that Bob meets Ike Mandell, who is in love with Dora, the daughter of Pinsker.

Carmen, Martin and Lucas, children of the Motherland, are imprisoned for protecting a fugitive indigenous person. Carmen is also really imprisoned for not giving in to the harassment of a Spanish Mayor. At the same time, the liberating conspiracy of Hidalgo, Allende, Aldama, and others is discovered, forcing them to start the Mexican War of Independence.

After a man and his sister move West, she fights off the advances of a bandit who makes a bet that one day she will kiss him without any pressure from him.

Dr. Charles Matthews, professor of philosophy in a small New England college, is dismissed, and though heartbroken he and his daughter, Prudence, start in a prairie schooner for the west. On the way west, it falls to Calliope's lot to do them many little services, which, on account of the native modesty of Pru and the innate manhood of Calliope, are necessarily surreptitious.

Ham, with his 999 disguises, is called on by Mrs. Worry to keep an eye on her husband. Armed with a photograph of hubby, the two set out on a riotous sleuthing career which ends with a bang when they find hubby at dinner with another fair lady and send the news to wifey.

Louie, the janitor of a large New York building, leaves New York for a small town to try to work out his formula for the "manufacturing of gold from baser metals."

The French girl Nanette Lubin came to Rio looking for her aunt and ended up finding the son of a baroness, Ricardo de Toneleiros. Not finding her aunt, Nanette became a manicurist for a baroness and later the lover of the lady's nephew. The film ends with the death of Nanette, who had been located by her aunt, but the aunt, upon learning how her niece was living, returned to the farm where she lived.

Young lawyer Richard Potter and Irene Roberts are secretly engaged but Irene’s social climbing mother wants her to marry a wealthy man. To that end she schemes with banker David Winters to break up Richard and Irene and pair her with Winters profligate son Gerald Winters. They succeed temporarily but Gerald is a violent drunk who runs with a fast crowd and eventually ends up charged with murder. Though innocent Gerald has been well framed and faces the gallows until Irene appeals to Richard, now the District Attorney, for aid. At the eleventh hour a confession saves Richard, allowing Richard and Irene to reunite.

Quite possibly the first student film, a whimsical romance shot in 1916 by law students from Washington University in St. Louis.

When his fiancée commits suicide after being used by an American artist, a Japanese art dealer seeks to get vengeance by seducing the artist's wife.

Ferenc life seems to be going great but after a dinner with his employer and his guest at which they discuss a unsolved murder case everything he has achieved begins to slip away from him. He plan to escape with his lover Czenczi but madness and an grisly end await them.

When Julie De Varion's old father is imprisoned for harboring fugitive Huguenots, she goes to the authorities and begs for his freedom, declaring that he only did it out of kindness of heart. They refuse to release her father unless she locates the Catholic's greatest enemy, Ernanton De Launay, who lives in the depths of the forests and who has been vainly sought after for years.

On the morning of the last day of the trial, a veiled woman visits Christopher and gives him a package, saying it contains a gift for Sir Gordon which will bring him luck. Learning that the driver of the Comet car has been disabled on the eve of the big race, Sinton, a gambler, bets heavily on its rival. But his plans go awry when Gordon, the owner of the Comet car, meets Naroche, a celebrated French driver, and engages him to pilot the racer.

After his study tour abroad, Simándy Pál, the Protestant pastor, returns to his homeland, Transylvania. In the church of Magyargarabó which lacked a priest for a long time, the bells are ringing again. The young priest devotedly serves his vocation in the village which becomes more and more Romanian. He falls in love with Florica, the daughter of the Orthodox pope. The girl returns his love. In the novel, the lovers are torn apart, as the pope is the paid spy of the Romanian anti-Hungarian League, but the film has a happy ending: Simándy and Florica unite in happiness. The film was originally produced in 1916 and presented in 1922 completed with some film and stage scenes.

The first time that Jack was threatened with expulsion from college his Aunt Mary was much surprised and decidedly vexed -- mainly at the college. His family were less surprised, viewing the young man through a clearer atmosphere than his Aunt Mary ever had, and knowing that he had barely escaped similar experiences earlier in his career by invariably leaving school the day before the board of inquiry convened.

"Midnight at the Old Mill" has some nice "Guignol" touches with mysterious doctors in black and Ham having to play a corpse at one moment.

Social-climbing Arnold St. Clair abandons his pregnant lover Myra to marry wealthy Adeline Stratton. Myra, looking to protect her child, marries Hugh Roland. Adeline's uncle Mark discovers Arnold's secret, and to keep him quiet, Arnold kills him.

Circus dancer Babette learns from Zaidee, her fortune-teller mother, that her father is the respected businessman Ezra Butterworth, who had deserted Zaidee years before and then remarried. After Zaidee dies, Babette goes to live with Ezra, but fearful that his second wife will learn of his less-than-upright past, he takes her in as his ward and forbids her to mention their real relationship.

A teenage girl lives with two grizzly bears in a cave in the California Sierras and plays with rabbits and birds. When gambler Jim Hamilton and his mistress try to interest wealthy Bob Jordan in purchasing an abandoned mine in the Sierras, Jordan, mistakes the girl clothed in leaves and feathers for an animal, shoots her in the arm.

Spider Barlow and Spike, motivated by a news article about District Attorney Willard Dale giving his wife, Peggy, an expensive necklace, pose as gardeners to case the Dales' home. While the Dales are at a costume party dressed as thieves, Spider and Spike steal the necklace. Willard returns home, is mistaken for a real burglar, and in the ensuing confusion, Spider escapes with the necklace.
