The beginning of The Living Corpse immediately sets the tone with a folk duet clearly inspired by the popular 1956 musical Songs of the Peach Blossom River. The duet, in addition to Zhu's frequent use of long, empty shots and crisp editing, gives this horror film a traditional poetic charm and a strong folk flavor. Mise-en-scene and sound effects create a terrifying atmosphere, and successfully communicate the ghostliness of a world without ghosts.

Cheung's last concert tour was the Passion Tour, which took place in Hong Kong and overseas from 2000 to 2001.

Tan Tao Liang plays a man who goes to retrieve his brother (played by Mang Fei) from a war torn area. He finds him, only to have to escape the area with a group of other refugees to a tropical island. Meanwhile Ramon Zamora plays a man tracking down his missing fiance, who happens to be with Meng Fei's character; but a greater conflict threatens the well being of the refugees, and Tan, Meng Fei, and Zamora have to fight together to eradicate the menace.

Hong Kong. Night. A young woman enters the 24-hour self-service laundry and slams her bag of clothes on the floor. Only one other customer is inside – a young man busily texting his client. They both silently go about their chores, but before the night is over, this chance encounter in the repressed city will have saved both of their souls.

Apparently the happy enlightenment of Li represents a triumph of the latter over the former. Li, Zhang and Lei Zhen, who plays the role of Li's husband, all showcase their distinctive personalities in their portraits of the characters.
