Tinder mushrooms growing on the trunks of trees can be stretched into leather-like material, which can be used to manufacture hats, for example. The art of this traditional Romanian handcraft is threatening to disappear, since there are no too many artisans left. Imre wants to secure the future of the craft and has taken an apprentice. The documentary short introduces the rare traditional handcraft and takes us on a trip to the forest with Imre and his apprentice to harvest the tinder mushrooms at dawn.

The documentary explores why this is the case and follows the club's activities over a year.

In 1980, 15-year-old Mika Taanila—soon to be a renowned filmmaker—recorded, under his then moniker Musiikkivyöry, a track titled We’re Becoming Blind. Here, played in reverse, it accompanies abstract 16mm film hand-painted by contemporary teenagers and fragments from Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Mépris (1963) and Ici et ailleurs (1976). Images and sounds echo across generations: a fragile dialogue of sight and blindness, of refusal and revelation.

Confessions of Undecided Women is an animated short documentary consisting of confessions from women in their thirties about childbearing in a society where women’s bodies have been instrumentalised for reproduction. The documentary gives space to the voices of those who are undecided, fearful, or do not want children. It creates room for reflection and discussion on women’s personal choices and societal expectations.

Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s honeymoon trip to Viena Karelia was one of the numerous colonial expeditions undertaken by Finnish artists, aiming to draw from Karelian culture to construct Finnish cultural heritage. Director Mikki Noroila’s relative Rimmin Ul’l’aska, who lived in Viena Karelia, served as a living model for Väinämöinen in Gallen-Kallela’s Aino Triptych (1891). The film tells an alternative narrative of history, one that does not rely on the Finnish colonial tradition.

Anssi Mänttäri is a living legend of Finnish cinema. Having been involved in over a hundred industry projects as a producer, screenwriter, and actor, Mänttäri’s personal directing credits include 26 feature films, as well as TV movies, series, short films, and documentaries. The documentary chronicles Mänttäri’s career chronologically. His theatre aspirations led to his first role in Mikko Niskanen’s Commando Assault, getting established in the film industry, and finally, his debut as a director with The Holy Family. With plenty of footage of Mänttäri’s films over the years, this biographical documentary meticulously combs through his filmography, also touching on his thoughts about winning a Jussi Award and founding the organisation ELKE ry.
