This is a film about the passions of the human relationship with nature. A journey to the roots of the passion takes us to the backwoods of rural Finland. On our way, we encounter eccentric fellows, who have devoted their lives to nature. They are haunted by the call of the wild, the idea of being part of nature, or the sensation of companionship with wild animals. On one hand, the nature must be protected from the human influence. On the other hand one has a lust to get where no one has gone before. In order to get in touch with nature, one relies on technologies that separate his body from it. We are guided by the enthusiasts’ passions to the nature of their experiences. What do they tell of our modern life?

Looking for new and stronger stimuli leads the protagonists of the documentary to somewhat unique activities. The teenage girls become involved with a kind of a masochistic therapy which involves tying and compressing each other with ropes. These apparently shocking practices give rise to a reflection upon one’s own corporality and the relationship between power and trust.

For every generation there is a war story to be told. The story is told in the evenings. It is like a movie about the good and the bad, us and them, profits and losses. Some images are so impressive that they are turned into symbols and monuments; beginnings, turning points and endings. This is a film about the story of war which the evening news told to us, growing up in the 1990s. The story was told with images of burning oil fields. It was reported that on its withdrawal the defeated side ignited the oil wells in fire, causing major financial losses. There were no images of human casualties. The story began when we were kids and it still goes on.

ME/WE, OKAY, and GRAY consists of a short three-episode film and a 3-monitor installation. The installation is intended for showing in museums and galleries, and the episodes of the film version in cinemas among trailers and between the adverts on television. ME/WE is about balancing individual identity and about control. In an absurd episode a nuclear family of four is in the backyard hanging out white sheets to dry. The story is told via a monologue by the father. He mirrors himself and his life in the members of his family, seeing himself at moments when he recognises differences and similarities. Darkness falls – the sheets glow in the night like blank white screens. The father directs his words to viewers. His voice also speaks the other characters’ lines, with the others opening and closing their mouths in the appropriate rhythms. Who in the end is speaking, what is an individual and where are the boundaries of the self?
