On August 21, 1940, Trotsky was assassinated in Mexico City, after eleven years of exile. The killer, Ramon Mercader, a young Spanish communist, was a character straight out of a spy movie. He was recruited in 1937 by Stalin's secret service when the latter decided to eliminate Trotsky, that tireless opponent. Through the epic story of Trotsky's last years in exile in Mexico, enriched with flashbacks to his political past, this film, a true historical thriller, offers a cross-narrative between Trotsky's life in exile and the setting up, at the same time, of "Operation Duck", the code name for his assassination.

From 1974 to 1977, Lucas Vereertbrugghen and his crew filmed anonymously under the name 'The Present as History' in Nazareth, Acre, and Galilee, where Palestinians lived in bleak conditions. They also filmed in the occupied territories of Jerusalem and Ramallah and, with the help of a friendly Palestinian couple, in several destroyed villages in the Golan Heights and Gaza. Everything was shot on Super 8, both for financial reasons and to preserve secrecy. The film was later converted to 16 mm and won a bronze medal at the Baghdad Festival in 1978.

"J'ai mal à ma maman", produced with the Uccle art school's film workshop, continues the same themes thirty years on, in a more fictionalized mode, but intertwined (“Why do you think you're Jewish? Because I hurt my mom”): the mother and the fantasized condition of being Jewish. The relationship with women other than the mother also appears, whose love carries a final note of hope, rare in Paquot's work.
