Since the early '80s the rusting hulks of thousands of the world's largest ships have been driven onto the remote beaches of Alang, off the Arabian Sea, to be dismantled, piece by piece. Selling their ships for scrap, the owners rarely bother to abide by the UN Basel Convention, which bans shipments of transboundary waste. One worker a day, on average, dies on the job, some from explosions or falls, but many will contract cancers caused by asbestos, PCBs and other toxic substances. Shipbreakers vividly captures both the haunting beauty of the ships and the deplorable conditions of the workers - in an unforgettable portrayal where Third World ingenuity meets 21 st century global economics.

The film is about a man who decides to extort money from the Japanese Government by holding the citizens of Japan to ransom through a rather ingenious method. However, due to the man's profession as a police lawyer, he is able to shield his identity by influencing elements of the investigation through contacts within the police itself. In desperation, the Government decide to hire the services of a sniper who, at the time, is serving a 250-year sentence in a forced labour camp for previous crimes committed. A cat-and-mouse game then ensues between sniper and lawyer.

The near future: Bruno is trying to win back his ex-wife. Under the pressure of her domineering mother and a new (arranged) boyfriend, Jorge, Isabel brings charges of harassment against Bruno. Bruno is trialed and sentenced. A device designed to suffocate him if he gets within 100 meters of Isabel is implanted in his throat. But that doesn’t stop Bruno, he practices holding his breath.
