Cinematic Era: 2003 Vintage

This captivating documentary takes on the commonly-held folk music scholarship assertion that women did not widely participate in old-time music in the Ozarks. Through a series of performances and interviews with senior generations of women musicians in southern Missouri, the film illustrates the central role women played, and continue to play, in the development of old-time music, culture, and community identity.

Integrating home movies shot over six years of traveling with friends and lovers with postcards and flyers collected during past travels, Wu Chun-Hui takes us on a journey without end, a voyage searching for the origin of memory and infinite desire. Noah, Noah deals with relationships, distance, and memories, and turns the needs and desires that evolve from them into a cinematic experience. Trains departing, back roads roamed, navigating by water or air. It’s also about distance in filming, a distance from one image to another film roll, from one frame to another perforation, the distance from the real to the faded memory.

When in 2002 Jedynka presented Krzysztof Lang's TV series "Prawdziwe psy" about the work of police officers from the Capital Police Station, Commissioner Slawomir Opala and Assistant Commissioner Krzysztof Tkaczyk were among the characters in the series. At the time, both were distinguished officers of the Homicide Department with about 10 years of experience. Within a few months of the end of shooting, dramatic changes occurred in their professional and private lives, and both found themselves at a crossroads in life. Convinced that these changes were related to the series, Krzysztof Lang decided to return to his characters to complete the plot devoted to them. The film is thus a kind of epilogue to that series, and at the same time a psychological portrait of the two operational officers. It shows what a great psychological price one pays for practicing this specific profession, if one wants to do it with integrity.

Experimental animated film inspired by Chalcolithic cruciform figurines found in Lemba. Archeologists there found statues of deity or fertility depicting male and female body-parts, meant to be either joined or separated. This film is a geometrical interpretation of the parts.

The film tells about the events after the civil war. The first years of Soviet power. A new peaceful and quiet life, with an amazing future ahead of us. But first signs of civilization have not reached the Yakut village yet. Everything is new here. Ordinary people hear a lot of new and unusual things, but this has never happened before! The arrival of the first airplane! An iron bird! Astonishment, astonishment, and most of all fear of it overwhelmed the villagers to the point that the poor peasant fell into the swamp with fright! Both scary and interesting!

The 'tragedy competition' was the first part the Greek dramatic competitions where the playwrights at the time competed with each other. This video production of 'Tragedy Competition' introduces 11 actors: each of them is placed in a made-up situation with which they must figure out a way to deal with their own interpretation. It is up to the actors to stay within the situation or leave, but the last actor to continue to speak and cry becomes the winner of the competition. The whole production is unrehearsed and is filmed in real time.

In 2003, an international peace conference was held in Ramallah in the West Bank, and Tamara Moyzes, who was studying abroad in Israel at the time, decided to cross the border and attend the conference. She even managed to sneak into a press conference with Yasser Arafat and make a video recording of it, which she then intercut with footage of her difficult journey across the border.

With a new baby at home, my wife and I wanted a way to introduce our son to Jewish customs and music as we prepared for Shabbat. We looked around and couldn't find a video made just for Jewish babies-so we invented one! OyBaby was released in November 2003, and we've been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we've received from parents across the country. Growing up, our parents taught us to celebrate our Judaism, and music was always a central part of that experience. Now, as parents, we hope to do the same for our son. OyBaby will be one of the first steps in his Jewish discovery. We wish the same for the children in your life, too. We hope you have as much fun watching it as we had making it!

With traces of Kafka, this experimental short locates us in an altered state of reality as the set for an unsuspecting beetle's participation in her mate's metamorphosis. Influenced by Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" and Aileen Wuornos, a Florida prostitute and lesbian who was sentenced to death row for killing several tricks, this video explores homophobia from a different and extreme angle. Here, the protagonist morphs from someone engaging in bestiality to cannibalism. The object of her desire is what she aspires to; her tragedy is that her metamorphosis destroys not only her mate, but also her former self.

Born in Suriname and living in the Netherlands, Clarence Breeveld wants to visit the places where his ancestors were traded as slaves. Along with director Frank Zichem, he departs for Ghana, where he is informed about how and where the slave trade took place. Breeveld is visibly moved upon seeing the dank dungeons and the 'door of no return' at Cape Coast Castle. The encounter with the 'key bearer' of the mighty Ashanti king is not a dispassionate event, either. At Fort Elmina, they meet the Ghanaian Stephen Korsah, who knows a lot about the history of slavery in his native country and Europe, but nothing about final destination Suriname. The road movie gets a sequel when Korsah travels along to Suriname. In the interior, he is greeted in Kromanti, the language from his native region. Now, even the tough Korsah is touched. The wounds of slavery are far from healed.
