Inspired by the novel Flicker by Theodore Roszak, this film was intended to explore the images captured in the flickering light of multiple projector beams. By utilizing superimpositions within the camera, one could experience the pulsating light and explore hidden imagery through use of the "Sally Rand" that Roszak refers to.

IT'S A CASUAL LIFE tells the story of Jimmy and his lifelong membership of the Saturday scene. Through a brutally honest monologue and series of dramatic and violent events, the film challenges the myths surrounding football hooliganism and explores Jimmy's past, passion and above all, motivation. Central to the story is Jimmy's love affair with the culture of football. We discover his resentment at the evolution of The Casual scene and the demise of everything it once stood for. The seasons are of supreme importance to me, even in the Bay Area. With one exception, all my films follow a pattern of development from a stark "winter" beginning to a rich, flowering or "summer" conclusion. This is true even of the documentaries Music Makes a City and Seasons of a Mountain Vineyard. I always stored my footage of East Coast material according to season

A satirical film featuring a housewife and her attempts at counterculture. A one minute film commissioned by the Images Festival in 2003 for their Minute Movies program. It was designed specifically for the experimental-film-lovin’ audience at the festival. It pokes a bit of fun at experimental filmmakers in general, and it actually demonstrates a valid but obscure technique. This technique took me almost two years to figure out, and I subsequently discovered that it was already known and was deliberately kept from me. It’s about sharing techniques instead of hoarding them, and having fun. It won Jury’s Choice and Audience Favorite at the CSIF $100 Film Festival, Best Film Overall at the Toronto One Minute Film and Video Festival and received Special Mention by the jury at The Festival International de Court Metrage in Lille.

Portrait of Signe Baumane. About creative people, obsession and fixation with their work, huge egos without which nothing gets done, but alongside them are others whose lives are willingly or unwillingly subordinated... The continuing political significance of Silverlake Life is brought into clearer focus. Another friend of Tom Joslin and Mark Massi, Elaine Mayes recorded footage of Mark’s decline after Tom’s death, which is where the original version ends. It’s fitting that Mark’s own life, death, and the loss of his lover are here given the sort of attention afforded Tom’s experiences. It reminds us that AIDS is far from over.

How can one talk about death without showing the dead? Or, experience suffering without seeing the wounds? A possible answer is found in Amer & Nasser, a video-gram excerpted from a documentary on the 1991 rebellion of Iraqi people, which turned into a bloodbath: the slow pace of the images allows us not really an observation, and investigation, of the two martyrs identity, rather it poses the questions: Why did it all happen, and Where were we? The two blindfolded faces apparently emanate serenity and resignation, but they also hide a terrible anguish. The slow pace of time, This Time, marks the steps of the sentenced ones, and the pushes and shoves of the soldiers, like it had lost its way. The slowing-down of the movement leads the mind’s way into the maze of the afflicted soul. In front of the camera-spectator, the passage of the brothers led to an army truck, while a flute announces the imminent trespass of life into death, looks like one towards the unknown.
