Routine schedules and cruel fate determined who was cooking, setting tables, washing dishes or serving guests at the renown Windows on the World Restaurant at the top of One World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. Most of them were immigrants, and they came from all over the world. When they perished, their families and colleagues had to deal not just with their loss, but with a broken immigration system that classified many of them as "illegal." The survivors tell their stories of that day, and the days that followed, in Windows.

In Kalkito we see three people who have been filmed to be two-dimensional like a transfer. A naked male teacher whips a naked female teacher until she is docile while a second naked female teacher, who is reversed in the fame, directs the action. Kalkito, as are other films in this series, is not meant to portray sexual excitement. They show bodies fading away.

Julia is a hairdresser, owner of a remisería, who goes out on a Sunday picnic with her family. The day does not propose anything different from her predictable daily life: the husband protests, the teenage daughter reads dance magazines and the son will be absent.

Zone shows a group of children in a desolate piece of urban land. Besides their behavior as children, they seem to act as tramps. For example they attempt to make a bed out of cardboard boxes, but also pelt each other with them. Franzson's sombre, repetitive music enhances the sinister atmosphere of Mik's film, while the images give an extra charge to the music, which consists of improvisation on ceramic windpipes and double bass. The low, constant tone of the windpipe, played by the composer himself, has its equivalent in the highly repetitive nature of Mik's work. Franzson wanted to imitate the sound of the wind till the point were nature meets culture.

A New Zealander and an Irishman quit their jobs, cash in their savings and walk 2,626 miles from Mexico to Canada along one of the longest and most challenging foot trails in the world, the Pacific Crest Trail. Their route takes them through some of the most spectacular scenery in North America, including California’s deserts, the high mountain passes of the Sierra Nevada, the Cascade Mountains and the lush forests of Oregon and Washington States. Walking at a challenging pace of 21 miles a day for 4.5 months, they must cross the Canadian border before the approaching winter storms. The ordeal forced one of them to quit just 60 miles before the finish. An amusingly poignant tale about two novice hikers search for adventure and enlightenment on the Pacific Crest Trail.

The natural world of which they are a part has evolved a finely-tuned balancing act. However, the encroachment of man is putting new pressures on it.

Nightingale is a film that uses a love affair to examine the way we recreate our own histories; continuously fictionalising our past and forever altering the events within them.

Hotel Tubu (2002) is a good introduction to the Buharov’s cinema. A relatively early work, its slapstick playfulness and improvised fancy dress party aesthetic might at first suggest a wilful exercise in absurdity for its own sake. Yet this is tempered by a rather wistful lyricism, which combines with the haunting elusiveness that accompanies the first viewing of many Buharov films, an unease not dissimilar to trying to recall a dream that only presents itself in fragments. This stems largely from trying to process the complex layers of impressions that it offers within a very condensed running time. It shows the struggle between three “cosmos workers,” beings whose task is to wait for ideas too big to be conceived by human brains to be channelled from the universe.

Peel OFF is an experimental film with a boy who showers.

Adventure of a Japanese boy who wanders in France where the violence of a strange environment and strange language penetrate his mind and he starts to have incoherent illusions. What happens to the boy between illusions printed in him and tyrannically cruel reality? The work was animated with 6,000 wood block prints to express the gaps and shakes of megalomaniac illusions.

Director Wei Xing independently filmed the documentary "Jesus Bless You" in 2002, as both director and cinematographer. The film won the 10th Beijing University Student Film Festival Student Unit Professional Group Documentary Excellence Award (the best vacancy), the second Beijing International University Student Film Festival Silver Award in 2003, the 2003 Hong Kong Independent Film and Video Competition. the 2003 "Jesus "Bless You" is collected by the University of San Diego Library.

From May 2001 to February 2002, transsexual performance artist Mirha-Soleil Ross appeared pregnant every time she was in public. This video features Mirha-Soleil performing pregnancy by the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and an audio recording of her mother speaking about the ups and downs of having a baby. Created as a part of Mirha-Soleil Ross' performance art cycle: The Pregnancy Project. The Pregnancy Project explores some transsexual women's relationship to the personal and institutional aspects of motherhood and hopes to foster community discussion around controversial reproductive technologies.

Wilkie, the deckhand from the Philippines, Lefteris, the cook from Syros, Dimitris, the lieutenant from Rhodes, Baksi, the sailor from India, Manolis, the captain from Athens, Nikos from Piraeus down in the engine room, and Giannis the sailor from Perama, have boarded a merchant ship leaving Piraeus for the Far East. With them are 18 other sailors, Greeks and Filipinos. The film follows their lives at sea for two and a half months, crossing seas and oceans and stopping at many ports on their way to distant Korea and back again.

Karel Doing follows the route taken by his uncle Ed Huis in ‘t Veld, who was executed in 1942 by Japanese forces on the Indonesian island of Tarakan. In this intimate travelogue, Doing visits the harbours where the mail ships stopped on their way to the Dutch Indies (Amsterdam, Genoa, Port Said) and films in Jakarta, Surabaya, Borneo and the oil-rich island of Tarakan. Fragments from his uncle’s letters, archival footage from the extensive Eye Filmmuseum collection and the director’s diary are combined in a fascinating mix.
