This video work is one of a group of pieces known as 'The Passions' which explores human emotions, inspired by early European devotional paintings. The five screens show different times of the day – morning, afternoon, sunset, evening and night. Each scene shows the female protagonist at a different task, from yoga exercises in the morning through to lighting candles in the evening and finally going to bed. In each scene, the tree outside the window is shown at different stages of its annual cycle, putting the woman's routine in the larger context of the cycles of nature. The work is based on a predella by the fourteenth century artist Andrea di Bartolo.

The title is ironic in that the majority of the scenes are modest domestic portraits (a suburban dinner party, for instance, or a family enjoying a lazy afternoon) where latent emotional tensions only just break the surface - to be intuited rather than grasped directly. It is the recording apparatus that seems to capture these intangible currents and bring them under public scrutiny.Yet the status of what we are seeing remains indefinite, since the camera can also function as a catalyst. Do we really glimpse the inner 'truth 'of these individuals - or is it merely discomfort at the fact of being observed? A work of structured ambiguity that tests the camera 's capacity for violence.

An unusual visit of the Parc Royal in Brussels. The guide in this fake documentary introduces you to the habits of the parc’s gay scene, taking his time, slowly making you discover the hundred details of the parc’s ‘social life’. An educational film where you learn all about the historical facts of the Parc Royal as well as a ‘sociological’ document, but most of all a humorous film around an amazing caracter: le guide du parc.

This portrait of famed Armenian-Egyptian studio photographer Van Leo, whose career spanned some 50 years, is also a reflection on transformations in the practice of photography, from hand-developing to digital manipulation. As Zaatari puts it, "Van Leo used photography to display multiple images of himself, assuming different identities. At a time when nationalism was rising in Egypt, Van Leo was plotting, encouraging, and promoting multiple subjectivities.”

Resembling a glimpse inside the DNA of modern existence, Guzzetti’s breathtaking composition seems to harness all the visible and invisible forces that connect and disconnect humanity. The various natural, political, violent, serene, exhilarating and alienating powers comprise a mediated complex through which the focal point of mortality appears both ever-present and faraway. Guzzetti pinpoints this surreal tension by recognizing its inherent blindness.

On December 2, 2000 the day after the change of government in Mexico the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) declared an end to it's silence and announced it's decision to travel to Mexico City to speak in front of the Mexican Congress in support of the San Andres Accords. This silence was the result of the Mexican Government's refusal to ratify the San Andres Accords and the extensive military build-up in the Zapatista communities that began in 1995. The Silence of the Zapatistas documents the many non-violent protests organized by the Zapatista communities during this silence against the military presence in the Autonomous Municipality of San Pedro Michoacan.

Alive Alive O – A Requiem for Dublin chronicles the heroes and the ever-changing heart of Dublin over a seven-year period. During this time, Merry Doyle’s lens captures the colourful characters of the city by focusing on Dublin street traders and their daily hustle and bustle. This invaluable record of vanished communities also depicts a city fighting to retain its soul in the midst of boom-time redevelopment. A young U2 play a benefit concert on Sheriff Street, maverick politician Tony Gregory fights the closure of Moore Street market and Dubliners (many of whom have since passed away) recall memories of a different city.

For years, a great deal of Southern hip-hop and dance music has been all about shakin' the booty, so it's no surprise that at gentlemen's clubs in the Deep South, one of the featured attractions has become the "shake dance," in which women show off how they can shake their bodies from the waist down in time to the music -- no easy task when the beats are pumping at 140 bpm. Shake Dance is a documentary that takes viewers to a number of strip clubs in the Atlanta area, where some of the nation's best shake dancers show off their moves and talk about their jobs; some regard what they do as an art form and a means of personal expression, while others just look at dancing as a fast way to make a buck. Shake Dance features music from a handful of the South's leading dance music acts, including 95 South, Quad City Family, and 69 Boyz.

The film was hand processed and cut up into 2ft length’s and then cut back together alternating from Joel’s footage to Jon’s until all the film was gone. This film is the follow up to ALL SAINTS DAY which was done using the same techniques the year prior soundtrack for this film was done the same way.

"The Electronic Canvas" focuses on Boston as a major center in global movement where artists in the 1960s were drawn to the growing power of television and media. Viewers learn how these artists responded to the initial challenge of not being able to become creatively involved with television. The show looks at how cultural institutions and organizations responded to this challenge and what happened when the doors were opened to artists’ desires to probe this unexplored territory. From these early efforts and experiments, the program follows the rapid growth, diversification, and sophistication of video and media art from single channel works to complex pieces involving computer programs, museum video installations, and in the Internet. The Electronic Canvas aired in April 2001 on WGBH Channel 2 in Boston and then on public television stations nationally.

Indian flower sellers, Turkish trash collectors, Chinese cooks, and Thai prostitutes--Munich-born artist Julian Rosefeldt confronts the viewers of his video project, Asylum, with stereotypical European views of foreigners and ethnic minorities. In his seductively opulent tableaux vivants, he exaggerates and parodies popular conceptions about roles and professions, while embedding his protagonists in strangely surreal scenes and ritual contexts.

In his contribution, Garin Nugroho wants to show the importance of the new and the old harbour of Jakarta. In the harbour districts Keroncong Tugu (the old district) and Tanjung Priok (the present harbour district), multicultural communities have emerged that have opened up Jakarta society towards Europe and Asia. Nugroho uses archive footage to show that the heritage of the Portuguese who exploited Indonesia before the Dutch is for instance still visible in the existence of a Portuguese community with its own music culture. The development of the harbours is important for the future, but their history also has sad stories. For instance, Nugroho points out that many wars were started about who controls a port.
