"I owe you the truth in painting, and you shall have it!" Cezanne devoted himself body and soul to his painting, to the exclusion of any other passion. After a few short stays in Paris, he returns to the south of France, fascinated by the light there and his sacred Mount St. Victoire, and haunted by the representation of nature. The film traces the artist's quest from his childhood in Aix-en-Provence, marked by his friendship with Emile Zola, to his encounter with the Impressionists and especially with Pissarro. Like his impressionist friends, Cezanne always worked outdoors, constantly searching, in his model, for its essence. His paintings open up new pictorial perspectives. The precursor of modern art, he is, as Picasso said of him, "....the father of us all."

Using the example of two elderly people, the film reconstructs the fate of the former USSR. Their generally quite comfortable lives unfolded against the backdrop of the difficult and bloody history of the Soviet Union — a country that disappeared, taking with it its way of life, its morality, and an entire generation.

Part of the No Ghost Just a Shell series, this short video introduces the virtual character Annlee as a suspended presence, caught between animation and conceptual narrative. In just under five minutes, Huyghe explores themes of agency, temporality, and identity: Annlee exists simultaneously as a digital “shell” and a vessel for projected emotions, highlighting the tension between a created character and the interpretations imposed by viewers and collaborators. Minimalist visuals and silent animation emphasize her ambiguous, haunting presence.

In a fitting tribute to the murder of scores of Jewish artists and performers, the filmmakers meticulously matched audio from pre-war recordings with films and still photographs taken by the Nazis in Westerbork, Theresienstadt, Dachau, and Auschwitz, resurrecting, if only for a brief time, the lives and art of some of Europe¹s best known performers, including Willy Rosen, Max Ehrlich, Kurt Gerron, Die Ghetto-Swingers, Johnny and Jones, Fritz Grünbaum, and Lisl Frank. Dance of Death reveals the underlying pathos of the artists, who lived to perform (and owed their lives to performing), yet were forced to watch as others were lead to their death.

Temporal isomorphism and indexical relation between recording and reproduction. Film is used strictly as a light recording medium. I exposed 16mm raw film stock without a camera, by opening a film can and holding the film to the light of a site. This exposure encodes on the film both the light of the site and the performance of a gesture. These films are the result of a series of small “acts” that when projected function as documentations/translations of movement from space to time, meters to feet, photons to grain. While living in Paris, I mapped the contours of my apartment exposing film to the light of different rooms.

It was a war that unleashed terrible brutality. On one side was a ruthless leader-Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic-who claimed history was on his side. On the other, an alliance whose politicians believed that this was a crusade for moral values. It was a war where the politicians, rather than the military commanders, dictated the battlefield strategy and tactics. At its end, the war had produced one million refugees, thousands of civilian deaths, and a broken land still without peace. FRONTLINE correspondent Peter Boyer undertakes the first in-depth examination of a European war rife with diplomatic infighting and military stumbling.
