A documentary film following several years in the life of Jan Potměšil who has become a very popular actor at an early age, representing the type of a young sporty intellectual. After a serious car crash in 1989, he ended up on a wheelchair. He was 23 years old at the time. After a year of rehabilitation, he returned to the stage. Excelling in “Flowers for Algernon”, he continuously acts in the production in front of sell-out crowds across the country. He also lives his personal life, experiencing new loves and breakups, is engaged in civic affairs and returns to the hospital now and then. The film aims to give a non-pathetic image of a life lived to the full despite adversity.

"I began this project with no concept other than to see what might come of shooting some film over the course of a year. I ended up with a sort of travelogue consisting of ten sections edited in the order in which they were shot, beginning in spring and ending in winter. Some of the footage documents my travels over that time period, some documents travelers visiting places I called home at the time of filming. Additionally, some of the footage is made with actors playing travelers for the camera. Towards the end of the edit I decided to throw in some older footage I had in order to round out the picture. Originally a silent film, I have added a soundtrack mix by Sean Byrne of Bugskull." -SD

"Bri(n) d'images is composed in the form of a mosaic. Playing on the transparency effects of the film and the color inks used, it is more like a stained glass film. This work of plastic composition is accompanied by music itself made of fragments from 'Amériques' by Varèse" — Vincent Deville & Pip Chodorov

Oscar winning animator, Borge Ring (Anna and Bella), uses his expertise in animation to weave the tale of a young boy from a happy family who falls victim to a drug dealer who exploits the boy's curiosity about drugs with a disastrous result. Without the use of dialogue we see the boy exists inside a transparent bubble. His peers grow up to active social lives, while he continues to fly inside his bubble, isolated, within an insular world that the boy's increasingly desperate parents are unable to penetrate.

Somewhere in a subtropical country white visitors crowd around dark-skinned plantation workers emptying their harvest baskets. They look curious, as if wanting to test the quality of the tea leaves. Everywhere tourists take out their cameras whether in front of large animals in the wild or camel riders, whether in the face of decorated human bodies or daily work routines. Now and again they look into the camera themselves. For later, for when they will proudly show their 'exotic' finds at home. This posing contains a model of western travels and picture making which is over a century old. The fascinated gaze on the foreigners fixes them in pre-formed frames. Lisl Ponger follows the trail of that gaze by taking amateur found footage material and linking it together in new ways.

Documentary filmmaker Cynthia Wade is trying to get her divorced parents to talk to each other, but that is the last thing they want to do. Nothing ever seems to work out the way Wade hopes it will. At least she has a job (calling out Bingo numbers), a loving family (although her father's new wife is just a few years older than Wade), and a social life (if answering an emergency hotline on a Saturday night counts). So what if her sister gets all of the dates and her father is finally getting the son he always wanted? Wade is armed with her camcorder, and the result is a honest and painfully humorous video diary that captures a changing American family in the 1990s.

Other than Freud, no psychologist has been so discussed, critiqued and, at times, maligned as B.F. Skinner. Using both archival and new film, this video takes a new look at who the man was, and what he really said in his twenty books. Like other thinkers who broke new ground, Skinner had to invent his own vocabulary to describe the phenomena he was studying. In this film, his terms are introduced in context so the student understands how they were intended to be used and the research that produced them. The film lays to rest some myths and credits Skinner with contributions not often attributed to him. Understanding the complex man behind his work enables students to better evaluate the importance and relevance of the work he inspired. Murray Sidman, Ph.D., colleague and thoughtful practitioner of behavioral analysis, narrates.
