There are always two stories in mountain climbing, the story of the mountain and the story of the people trying to climb it. We know the story of Everest well after the tragic news stories and the IMAX film about it. There may be more technically difficult mountains to climb, but none have the mystique of Everest. Above All Else is the story of Alan Hobson and Jamie Clarke's third and final attempt to scale the mountain. The two climbers, who had failed twice in 10 years to conquer Everest--once only 400 meters from the top--balance each other well; Clarke's surfer style is offset by Hobson's thoughtfulness.

Jean-Luc Ponty has been extremely satisfied with his international touring quintet, which not only excels in performances of his latest compositions, but also brings new life to older works. Earlier in his career, the violinist became enamored with the use of banks of synthesizers plus digital delay for special effects on his instrument, as well as the prominent presence of an electric guitarist. But this quintet, heard in a brilliant 1999 concert in Warsaw, is considerably stripped down, featuring keyboardist William Lecomte, electric bassist Guy Nsangué Akwa, drummer Thierry Arpino, and percussionist Moustapha Cisse. A perfect example is "Rhythms of Hope," first recorded for Ponty's album Mystical Adventures; Ponty's dazzling solo is followed by Akwa's intricate, yet never excessively flashy bass solo.

The organization began with a concert event on October 9, 1999 with simultaneous activities meant to harness the Internet to raise money and awareness for the Jubilee 2000 campaign. Concerts took place at Wembley Stadium in London, Giants Stadium in New Jersey and the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The Wembley show was at capacity; the U.S. show suffered from very poor ticket sales. The concert was considered a flop by many observers, failing to raise nearly as much cash as Live Aid.

In 1911 Austin, Pennsylvania was flooded due to the collapse of a dam built to serve the town's large paper mill, killing 72 people, many of whom were trying to save the lives of others. Moving across the town's earliest wooded beginning to its fiercely industrial urbanity, Austin, within the context of apathy and tragedy, is revealed through a rich interplay of narration, interviews, and detailed photographs. The film explores the social environment of Industrial America in the early 1900's with its rapidly shifting commercial interests, increasing immigration and severe tensions between factory owners and the working class. Turning on the tragic pivot of the flood, a portrait of an American community is etched starkly with the character of its people made plain in the receding waters.

Even in the modern day era of squad numbers, the no. 7 shirt still holds symbolic status for its wearer. A signal that its possessor is the pivotal force in the team's midfield, the Man Utd version has been sported by the likes of George Best, Steve Coppell, Bryan Robson, David Beckham and, of course, Eric Cantona. This video profiles the club's most renowned no. 7's as well as more unsung players such as Ralph Milne, Colin Gibson and Clayton Blackmore.

How does one ‘scrub’ a moving image? For Belgian video artist Antonin De Bemels, this means taking hold of the footage and winding it (both sound and image) back and forth in a stuttering, constantly interrupted, but expressive manner. The internationally renowned dancer Bud Blumenthal rests his head on the frame of a reflective window and turns his body this way and that; the film highlights and abstracts the strangeness of both movement and setting.

A detective-mystery movie adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's 'Purloined Letter' that purposely forgets the central premise of the story: the invisibility of hiding something obviously in plain sight. Using anything and everyone at hand - an art dealer, a fashion editor, an actress, a poet, a museum of natural history, a junkyard dog, pigeons, a defunct ferry - the video takes the potential impatience that lurks behind every act of plotting and atomizes it into a frayed network of fleeting thoughts and impulses, a delicate narrative that ends like a magic trick in a puff of smoke.
