Everything in this world follows the movement of a child, i.e. in a virtual manner with an optical angle of 360 degrees. In this way, the concept of linear perspective we have had since the Renaissance is replaced by a new system of perspective, the ‘water-drop perspective-system'. Question: is this film a sort of two-dimensional virtual reality? Answer: no, virtual reality means that we construct our artificial world. I am much more interested in the surrounding real world. In this case, it is the world of my daughter. - Tamás Waliczky

Ask most people who led the 1963 March on Washington and they'll probably tell you Martin Luther King, Jr. But the real force behind the event was the man many call the pre-eminent black labor leader of the century and the father of the modern civil rights movement: A. Philip Randolph. Randolph believed that economic rights was the key to advancing civil rights. A. PHILIP RANDOLPH: FOR JOBS AND FREEDOM takes viewers on a tour of 20th-century civil rights and labor history as it chronicles Randolph's legendary efforts to build a more equitable society.

Directed by Süha Arın and Hakan Aytekin, the 1996 documentary explores Istanbul’s history through the enduring motif of gold. From Byzantion’s foundation as a trading colony to its role as the capital of three empires, the film traces how power and wealth were transformed into coins, art, architecture, and ritual. Moving from icons and mosaics to the Grand Bazaar and the modern gold exchange, the documentary presents Istanbul as a city where culture, economy, and daily life have been shaped by centuries of continuity and exchange of gold.

The film, dedicated to Paolo Volponi, is glimpsed through the clouds that pass over the city of Urbino. The images, immersed in a partial immobility, reveal the pain of a cultural isolation, through the eyes of a suffocating environment and obsessive reproduction of the past. Through various combinations of bricks and memories the walls of the city ooze disquieting memories oscillating between dream and reality.

Admiral Flipside is one crazy sea-dog. Driven by a darker than black alter-ego he embarks upon a bizarre voyage of destruction and self discovery. Haunted by his subconscious he is driven by ghostly manifestations into a surreal world of circus and theatre inspired by Sebastian Brant’s 1494 book ‘Das Narrenschyff’ (The Ship of Fools). Unbeknown to him he is the leading actor in a stage play based on the ship of fools. He leads the witless fools on a disastrous voyage to find ‘Narragonia’ (Fools Utopia). Flipside finds himself the sole survivor after the ship is set upon by fire breathing monsters from the deep. He is washed up on the very beach that he left many years ago, only to discover his innocence waiting for him. Here at last, after so many long years searching, he is forced to confront the grim reality that is himself. These short films combine computer animation, traditional animation, video and concepts of theatre to produce a bizarre visual story.

I want to live with the things I love and cherish. My family and I live in Ayase, and I work at a bookstore in Ikebukuro. Sometimes I open a store at a flea market with a friend. We sell tableware, which she likes, and accessories made from buttons, which I make, and they are quite popular. With the money we saved there, my friend went on a long-awaited trip abroad. My goal is to start living alone. Today is my day off, so I go out to check out an apartment. I stopped by a park and saw cats having a meeting. When I saw the old building, I suddenly wanted to see my grandmother, so I took the train... The entire film is written in monologue and with a handheld 8mm camera, and features all the things "I" like: buttons, the dawn from my room, cats, the ocean, and my grandmother. There is no context, no meaning, no great sense of beauty, but they play a comfortable rhythm and a beautiful melody. This is a fictional essay whose natural gentleness reminds us of non-fiction.

William Sheldon's crackpot body typing, based on the superficially convincing fiction of universal endo-, ecto- and mesomorphic components of the human form, gave each person three numbers from 1 to 7, one for each of these three components, interpretable as coordinates of a point in a cubic parameter space. The result of decades of obsessive recording, his Atlas of Men contained standardized pictures of 1200 individuals, obvious animation fodder. Attending to fundamental cinematic concepts of cut, shot and motion, I employed a computer to reduce Sheldon's three dimensions to the one of time. Further programs turned the coordinates of bodily form into notes, giving endomorphy, ectomorphy and mesomorphy each their own voice. Thus each point in Sheldon's parameter space implies a type of human and, by my contrivance, a frame of film and a musical chord.

Coming to grips with landscape via pseudo-hyper-stereoscopy. Your eyes are two-and-a-half inches apart, giving viscerally felt depth to 25 feet. If your eyes were 400 feet apart, you'd see solid forms three miles distant and think your grasp extended a mile. I established pairs of viewpoints up to hundreds of feet apart and jogged between, at each shooting a few frames. Since usual depth perception is only to 25 feet, we see anything in stereo as within that distance; mountains are seen as close and, hence, small. Filming took days and days: time, too, is miniaturized; shadows creep and clouds boil. Experience land as diorama and time as summary. UPPER BLUE LAKE, although not the most successfully pseudo-stereoscopic of several such wide-eyed studies, so enthralled me with its various qualities of light and atmosphere, I persevered, for five years jogging whenever I could, 12,000 feet high in the Colorado Rockies.
