Tala Pasifika was a pioneering Pacific Island drama series; this award-winning episode is one of six films that screened on TV One in 1996. 'Talk of the Town' is an entertaining short drama about Cindy (Henry Ah-Foo Taripo), a fa'afafine who has grown up to become a cabaret performer. She breaks the fourth wall from her dressing room to tell her story, which begins in her youth when her father (Alvin Fitisemanu) is impressed by her culinary skills and assigns her to the role of family cook.

Four tales of girls’ coming of age - through the trajectories of aspiration, curiosity, flamboyance and desire - are juxtaposed with testimonies of adult women on familial violence. The fictional tales and the documentary testimonies overlap, complement each other and then create a line of legacy of FEAR. The normalized and habitual moments in the daily lives of the women weave together a formidable web of fear. This omnipresent female fear then accompanies the young girls into the womanhood of vulnerability.

The film “To Rin-kun, from Alice” is essentially a summary of the six OVAs, narrated from Alice’s point of view. We see a more mature Alice strolling through a large park filled with cherry blossoms, reflecting on events from years past. At the end of the film, it’s revealed that she had arranged to meet Rin there. Although most of the film contains scenes already seen in the OVAs, a new scene from volume 21 of the manga is added near the end, providing a more definitive conclusion to the story.

The film commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sukarno driving through the street in the aftermath and waving the Flag of Indonesia as he became the first President proclaiming "My nationalism is humanity". The film investigates modern life on the street and whether early promises made by Sukarno lived up to expectations.

"Zombietown" portrays the DJ's artists and radio presenters of B92 during the brutal Yugoslav civil war. Their motto was Fascists Have No Sense Of Humour, as they kept the youth culture of Serbia alive and informed, fighting nationalism and promoting internationalism using wit, music and protests. As Fleka, a blind DJ and dark angel of the airwaves broadcast rock'n'roll prophesies over the city, the film shows the collapse of a city cut off from the rest of the world for five years under UN sanctions.

Mixed Messages is a work that addresses the issues of race and sexuality. This mixed media installation consists of three life size photographs of Gina Gonzalez, who is subject of two 20 minute videotapes. Gina is a transsexual claiming to have undergone a sex change between the first taped interview, in 1990, and the second, in 1994. In the initial session Gina allows us to glimpse into her life as a prostitute; in the next she reacts to the first taping. We not only look at her or listen to her, but she is also present in the form of a life-size photo cutout. The artist explores the boundaries between the public and private, and between appearance and reality. Conventional behaviour patterns, attitudes, and stereotypes are challenged in a work that brings out a variety of voyeuristic reactions in the subject, the artist, and the viewer.

A dialogue based on the Gospel according to St John. The apostles are played by friends (the disciples) of Boris Lehman, most of themselves moviemakers, filmed in front of the last house still standing opposite the new buildings of the European Union. Judas is played by Claudio Pazienza and Christ by Lehman himself. The film was shot in a matter of hours on a Sunday morning, with an incredible decor in a street that had been razed to the ground by property developers, just before the police arrived.

This is one of the classic animations of the 1990s with its surreal tale of the struggle between the sexes. All the strains as well as the closeness of relationships are shown, the title referring to the repetition of the tensions throughout our lives. It also reveals the role the woman plays in a marriage and the need, though often not communicated properly, of the man for this companionship and support.

In 1994, the Hong Kong government suddenly launched an initiative to tear down "rooftop dwellings", even though it had actually accepted their existance for many years. The Housing Authority regarded them as private property and denied owners the opportunity to apply for public housing. Now the government has ordered these 40,000 dwellings to be removed, without offering fair resettlement terms for the residents who had moved in after 1982. Video Power recorded the negotiations before some of these houses were torn down in Mongkok.
