This documentary explains from different perspectives the economic, industrial, and social development of Puerto Rico from 1940 -- with the Manos a la Obra program -- to the present. Through interviews with representatives of different sectors of society: labor, industrial, political, academic, and community life, we see a broad panorama of what the country's transformation has been and what the changes and alternatives are for its development towards the future. Filming in the Dominican Republic complements this production, which also records Puerto Rico's relationship with the rest of the Caribbean through twin manufacturing plants. This inter-university and interdisciplinary documentary is ideal material for understanding the current situation facing Puerto Rico. It is an excellent stimulus for the discussion of the topic from different disciplines: history, economics, humanities, political science, and communications.

The circumstances surrounding the creation of the work Tamagotchi are not entirely clear. The electronic toy of the same name was released in 1996, but the author and other contemporaries place the film’s creation a few years earlier. The animated dog character in the film calls for the viewer to feed it. The inability to respond to the virtual pet’s needs reveals the nature of the emotions evoked in the viewer by this digital interaction.

This "music magazine" is a montage of visually alienated historical film clips of tanks and soldiers (First and Second World War), pictorial reminiscences of Russian avant-garde art, and excerpts of interviews with Heiner Müller accompanied by heavy metal music (the "death & grind" music of the groups Abhorrence, Acrostichon, Toxaemia, and Disgrace).

“Edie, the faded starlet of “A.” is not so much a literal figuration of a woman, but a nightmare memory come to life. Nothing in Price’s cinema is quite what it appears to be. Daytime broadcasts implode into personal confessions. Edie is not Price-in-drag, but Price living within the ethos of the woman’s pictures that his mother obsessively tuned into when Price was growing up. Audio recordings Price made with his sister Sally, re-enacting the films Streetcar Named Desire and Imitation of Life invade the film. The memories engendered on these lazy afternoon are poured into Edie’s unsteady form. “A.” took years to film and the interior locales stretch out over 3 or 4 of Price’s apartments….it was a turbulent period of production in which Price became severely depressed and suffered a near-fatal accident while filming the suicide sequence.

In 1871, 'tired of the speakers of English', Mairi Mhor began writing resistance songs in Gaelic, protesting at the displacement of the Scottish Highland and Island folk by the Southern landlords. Unjustly imprisoned in Inverness at the age of 51, she expresses her anger in song, discovering a talent for music; these songs became central to the identity of the region and are still sung today. The achingly beautiful landscape of Skye, and the music it inspired, provide a haunting canvas for this valuable piece of historical research.

Donegan eats her way layer by iconic layer through a white bread and KRAFT American Cheese sandwich — crafting hearts, stars, faces and bunnies as she goes. Through a strategic use of close-ups and an aggressive rock n'roll soundtrack, Donegan ironically probes the auto-eroticism inherent in the production and consumption of the "art object" in contemporary America.

An investigation of the American media portrayal of black men as misunderstood tragic figures throughout recent history. Secrecy is an African concept which is a ritual element of understanding. The art that conceals and reveals. Which defines an individuals perception of recognition. Therefore, if you know the source of a premise you are the informed. If you don't know the concept of that premise, when you are confronted with it........ it bypasses your understanding.

Voices from Iraq', then, does not explore the murderous nature of the Iraqi regime. Instead it is a record of war and sanctions as viewed from Baghdad. It was a story that was never adequately told in the west and it makes uncomfortable viewing at times. It also represents an archive of a different kind. In February 2003 myself and my colleague Grant Wakefield were approached by NBC and asked if we had any footage of 'ordinary life' in Iraq. They had already been to the archives of the major US broadcasters and to the BBC, ITN etcetera. That they had to track down two obscure UK film makers to find what they needed reveals a telling fact: in the 13 years these organisations had crews permanently stationed in Baghdad, not one of them had ever filmed scenes from 'ordinary life' in a street, a market, a school, a home . . .
