Chris Marker’s Bullfight in Okinawa is a bizarre, 4 min documentary that introduces viewers to Japan’s subterranean past time of bullfighting. Part of Markers five-film “Bestiary” series, Bullfight employs observational documentary techniques and, in particular, Marker’s camerawork is impressive — tight framed shots, free-hand pans, and quick zooms all contribute to the film’s urgent sense of tension — and, if it weren’t for the suspense inducing music, this short-gem would be damn close to pure objective documentary cinema.

Documentary about Berlin's "Salon Kitty," a brothel that was systematically used by the Nazis for espionage. The owner's daughter took over the premises in 1953 and gradually converted them into an artists' guesthouse. In the early 1990s, her grandson tried unsuccessfully to set up a guitar school, and since then the guesthouse has mainly accommodated asylum seekers. Rosa von Praunheim traces the history of the house in conversation with prominent contemporary witnesses.

Billy, 10, a dreamer, wants to be taken seriously so he can live with his toy-designer father on Catalina Island. Billy's plans get seriously spoilt when Sherlock, a talking police dog, demands his help to rescue his police detective handler kidnaped by smugglers. But Sherlock likes to keep his talking a closely-guarded secret. So now no one will take Billy seriously until he rescues the kidnaped detective and catches the smugglers...

A butterfly flies out of the opening fan and leads the viewer through details to panoramas of Chinese landscapes, only to return to the closing fan in the film's final sequence. The film image synchronized to the rhythm of Fritz Kreisler's music. The animated film, made in watercolor technique on paper, retains the character and delicacy of Chinese painting.

Chomsky's work is directed at developing intellectual self-defense for "ordinary people" who are often isolated in their struggles. States are seen to be violent through such strategies as the near-genocide of aboriginal peoples. Ultimately, Chomsky feels we must move beyond the myths of modern industrial civilization and the privileged elites who dominate mass communication, and instead foster the interests of a truly global community.

The making of MENI consisted of an obsessive unraveling of a series of dance movements. The movements were cut into very short fragments (0.5 to 1.5 seconds). These fragments are edited into repeating patterns. Through exchanging fragments and double exposure the film becomes an intriguing and complex rhythm.
