Why have these two paintings, The Young Women and The Old Women, always been presented together? Historical investigation does not provide an answer. Alain Jaubert then sets out to follow the trail, patiently gathering clues: both paintings depict a lady and her servant. But while in The Young Women a “maja” is shown in a street scene that seems to belong to the European literary tradition, in The Old Women, Goya portrays an aging coquette and her servant, rendered as caricatures. The diamond arrow worn by the coquette is a clue that helps interpret these two paintings... As this “audiovisual autopsy” unfolds, the works come together to form a kind of fable about destiny—both that of Spain, devastated by the Napoleonic wars, and that of the painter himself, aged and disillusioned, who finds renewed energy in a new love.

Nicanor, a fictional inhabitant of the American continent, raises his voice and tells the story of Nicaragua, beginning with the discovery of America by Columbus and Gil Gonzales. Nicanor survives the oppression and murder of the original inhabitants of his country and later takes part in the struggles for independence. In modern times, he becomes one of the founders of the Sandinista liberation organization FSLN and is tortured and killed in the fight against Somoza's dictatorship. But his story continues: on the side of the victors, he works for the reconstruction of the country as a farmer, teacher, soldier, doctor, and student. Even after the Sandinistas' election defeat, he continued his struggle.

She decided to go public with her condition and spent the rest of her life as a powerful advocate for AIDS prevention, education, treatment, and human rights. The film features Belinda talking about her own experiences dealing with AIDS and the support she found within her rural community, and includes a presentation she made with her pastor to members of the Southern Baptist Convention: “People ask me if I think AIDS is a punishment from God. I can’t pretend to fathom what God is thinking, but maybe we should look at AIDS as a test, not for the people who are infected, but for the rest of us.” Funny, down to earth, and never self-pitying, Belinda speaks with a moving eloquence of our need for a collective response to AIDS that is not crippled by racism, homophobia, fear or ignorance.

The mansion was originally built as the private residence of the businessman named “Ryoji Oda” [小田良治], but after his death, it was used as the Philippine Embassy. In this film, Sekine focuses his camera on the rotting furniture and a mummified cat, and uses 16mm found footage (the content of which is a documentary of traditional Philippine culture) discovered in the basement.
