A collector of blue marbles is fascinated by the same blue eyes of a young woman he meets one evening in an empty swimming pool.

This is a story about a man who brings about the end of the world, which his compatriots greet with joy and merriment. Screen adaptation of Andrei Platonov's story, created by Kyivnaukfilm studio. The animation masterfully conveys the whimsicality of the writer's prose, which exposed the absurdity and horror of Soviet life above all.

From 1983 till 1989 I painted on foreign images of found films and I did hope that the paintet material could finaly be mine. Black ink with a dark shine of red is occupieing every frame, and gave a special intensity to the left but usefull details of the original image.

Nikitas gets involved with some anarchist groups, wanting to gather information to write a book about their ideology. His involvement proves fatal, because one night he finds himself in a clash between anarchists, which results in casualties. The police pursue him while he goes into hiding. Meanwhile, Thalia is on the road to success, while her anxiety about Nikitas' fate reaches its peak. On the big day of the premiere, which she had dreamed of so much, Nikitas arrives at her house in a terrible state, injured...

It is also about his love for a journalist called Mei Ling. Azam wasli becomes the victim of a political conspiracy and Mei Ling is held for ransom. The kidnapping of Mei Ling leads to the reunion of two long lost brothers.

A short drama that takes a humourous look at the consumer society.

An extremely direct indictment of the ills of contemporary life, sparing little in its brutal satire. Simply, the film uses a human bottom as its synecdoche and central metaphor, beginning by suggesting that 'we have lost the instruction booklet for its use'.

Over the Threshold is about intermarriage between Japanese and Westerners. The filmmakers are a husband and wife team who met during their studies at Britain's National Film & TV School in London. The film documents their first visit to Japan together, during which husband Tezuka introduces his non-Japanese wife to his family (his father coincidentally was the creator of the cartoon series Astro Boy). The point-of-view is largely that of the 'outsider', and much of the film is devoted to her attempts to find out what it means to 'fit in' in Japan. At a deeper level, the film amounts to a socio-cultural study of a Japanese family, who seem to adapt surprisingly well to having a 'geijan' or foreigner in their midst. This aspect is strengthened by the incorporation of interviews with other Western women who have married Japanese husbands.

Although photographer Horn has been back from Scotland for a while, he still has to think about his irritating and fleeting encounter with a stranger on his journey. Due to a mix-up, some of the stranger's valuables are sent to him.

Kató Kelemen is asked by her father to go to his office and welcome an important business partner of his. When Mr. Andersen arrives he assumes Kató is a secretary and instructs her to deliver a letter. He's about to travel to Venice with his nephew who he has never met before. Since Kató falls in love with Andersen at first sight, she decides to dress like a boy and pretends to be the nephew.

During his incarceration, his mother has been institutionalized in a psychiatric hospital due to schizophrenia.He tries to rebuild his life and cope with the burdens that followed him during his time inside. He also has to deal with the emotional and practical weight of his mother’s condition. Meanwhile, a young journalist (Meral) is interested in exposing and writing about the lives of “prisoners of fate”. Ferdi and Meral’s paths cross and her work brings her into contact with Ferdi and the struggles he’s facing.

Lye’s film consists of direct, non-photographic markings on the emulsion, accompanied by a soundtrack of African percussion (surely exotic for the time). The year 1989 marked the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution, and a number of filmmakers put together movies intended to celebrate that event. This historical action drama, based on the book Sous le vent de galerne by Andre Guilloteau looks at some of the less well-known and unappealing consequences of the republican takeover. In 1793, the entire region of Vendee rose up in revolt against the republican French government. Instead of bringing relief from the heavy taxation imposed under the monarchy, the republican government actually raised taxes in the region, and to add insult to injury, also imposed a heavy burden of military conscription ("the draft") on it. In the story, the inhabitants of one of the villages of the region organize under their blacksmith and a local nobleman to fight the government forces, but before they can prepare for a proper battle, they are massacred.

Stefanos is a musician who lives a quiet life. One day, however, when he leaves his son with his nanny at the supermarket to do some shopping, something happens that changes her life forever. At the same time that some people are trying to rob the cash delivery, Stefanos' son, accompanied by his nanny, exits the supermarket and is killed by a stray bullet fired by the robbers at the money transporters. The pain of the unfortunate father stifles every human emotion within him, and when the law loses track of the robbers and control of the situation, Stefanos discovers the robbers...

Few writers today tackle sweeping, multigenerational family sagas, work that demands vast life experience and insight. József Attila Prize–winner Árpád Thiery has done just that: his two published volumes of the Freytág Siblings’ story (1943 through the late 1960s) have been adapted by Hungarian Television into a five-part series slated for January 1989, and he’s already completed the trilogy’s final installment. Thiery describes it as a historical family novel, tracing postwar Hungary, from the Stalinist 1950s and the 1956 uprising’s aftermath to the upheavals of 1968, while celebrating freedom, truth, hope, boundless faith and innocent responsibility.

Tobias Schiff, a Polish Jew from Antwerp, was deported with his parents to Upper Silesia on August 28, 1942, on convoy No. 25. His story begins upon arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau and concludes with the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen camp. (2 x 26 min.)
