The second film from in this category, Etudes for the Electron Microscope (20 min., 1988), is is characterized by formal experimentation in both image and sound.

Noda’s team shot this film for Kanagawa News Film Association in 1972 as a document of annual rites practiced at Goryo Shrine in Kamakura. The footage was ultimately withheld from public view due to concerns about problems of discrimination at the origins of the masked procession festival. Noda obtained the footage from the NewsFilm Association and completed a version for private use in 1987.

The theme of the film is the essence of the Ukrainian song as the cradle of the Ukrainian people, the whole nation. Its depth, the antiquity of its history. The film also tells the tragic story of the brilliant folk opera “When the Fern Blossoms“. This opera, together with the Veriovka Choir, was created by the world-renowned composer Yevhen Stankovych, our contemporary. However, the Soviet government of the time was afraid of Ukrainian song and banned the opera, breaking the set. The film features excerpts from the opera performed by the choir, as well as testimonies from the authors and performers about the work.

In quiet campuses everywhere, incidents of kidnapping of school children occurred one after another. Fang Hua, a popular stage star, raised her daughter Liyun independently due to a failed marriage. Liyun is very well-behaved, but because mother and daughter spend less time together and more separation, they are a family with flawed family relationships. Taxi driver Xiao Liao once bravely stopped a kidnapping case, but suffered heavy losses, which made him feel that it was difficult to be a good person in this society. At the Southern end of the line, the three stations around St Leonards are separated by two long tunnels. Emerging at Bopeep Junction our "4-CEP" EMU - in the much lamented "Jaffa cake" colour scheme - turns north through the East Sussex countryside through Battle to Tunbridge Wells. The character of the line changes at Tonbridge as we join the main artery from Ashford, Dover and Folkestone. The Hastings line became infamous for its tunnels. Many had been constructed by a rogue contractor who saved thousands of pounds by only lining the tunnel with one row of bricks instead of the specified two. In danger of collapse, when the scam was realised a second layer had to be built inside, reducing the overall width. Following this, special narrow bodied trains had to be specially constructed. Since the scrapping of these and in order to allow the passage of standard width stock at the time of the 1980's electrification, many of the tunnels had to be singled.

Kát'a Kabanová, Janácek's 1921 tragedy, is proof if any were needed that tales of personal oppression and turmoil will always make fine raw material for opera composers. Janácek took Ostrovsky's tumultuous drama of infidelity , The Storm, and created a compelling piece in which his music heightens the relationship between the troubled landscape of Kát'a's inner mind and the elements doing battle outside. In 1988, this Glyndebourne Festival production successfully distilled the heroine's wretched journey from put-upon wife and daughter-in-law to suicide via the ecstasy of a forbidden love affair into 100 minutes of intensely emotional operatic drama.
