Elteva, an employee at the State Bank, begins to notice the economic damage caused by the operations of a district state enterprise headed by Martini, whose management is following an incorrect economic line. She finds herself at a crossroads, as the bank’s director is also a close associate of Martini. At one point, she asks herself why everyone seems to be against her. As if this were not enough, during this time a doctor suspects that she is pregnant. Elteva’s boyfriend, a football team coach, abandons her. Seeing the situation, Astrit takes the matter into his own hands to investigate the causes of the economic decline of the enterprise led by his colleague. He helps Elteva, with the assistance of a professor, to determine her diagnosis. Feeling guilty for the distress he caused her, her boyfriend Adi asks for her forgiveness. Now, she feels relieved of all the concerns that had been troubling her.

In the novella Blinky The Friendly Hen (1978), artist Jeffrey Vallance documented the supermarket purchase of a frozen chicken and its burial in the Los Angeles S.P.C.A. Pet Memorial Park. Naming the fryer Blinky, Vallance transformed poultry into pet, paying tribute to the billions of hens sacrificed each year for our consumption. Ten years later questions of the true cause of Blinky’s death continue to swirl. Blinky, the videotape, documents the search for this cause. Alas, like the shroud of Turin, Blinky’s death cannot be completely resolved. Blinky’s ten-year story ends where it began, in our culture’s glistening, dreamlike symbol of heavenly closure, the supermarket.

This is Jackie Mason’s first one-man Broadway show, which played to sold-out standing-room-only crowds for two years and was a phenomenal success on its American and European tours. This show earned Mr. Mason a special Tony award for outstanding theatrical achievement in 1989 as well as his first Outer Critics Circle Award, ACE Award, Emmy Award, and Grammy nomination. Once in a generation a performer emerges who is so extraordinary and so brilliant that everyone else in the field is measured against them. Jackie Mason is such a performer, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time.

Off Limits presents an analysis of representations of the Vietnam War, the 1960s, and the Vietnamese characters that have been portrayed in the recent series of films about this subject. I juxtapose a fragment from the film of the same title, made in 1987 about Vietnam in 1968, with a fragment from Easy Rider, a film made in 1968 about America in 1968. A scene is retold from the point of view of a Vietnamese character who in the film had no dialogue, no voice. His story is recounted through visual rolling text, written by myself, and it describes his own death as formulated by the narrative. This text is layered visually over a blue field, which in turn becomes a 'curtain' behind which the images and soundtrack from Easy Rider unfold and play simultaneously in real time underneath. -- Rea Tajiri

This feature documentary uses music to reveal the many faces of jazz, New Orleans style. Colourful and alive with music, the film captures the street life and traditions of this vibrant city and explores the roots of the music that springs from the soul of the African-American community.

This is one of those "little films" which is pure "cine poem" in the sense that it is picture, but also given over to what we call "abstract" - which is to say it arises as mind's light and exists, as such, as filmic "prayer." This film is an invitation to see Javanese palace dancing as performed in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and to go beyond appearances to discover what the dance means to those who continue the tradition. In this film dancers prepare to entertain guests at a wedding reception and perform the Love Dance (Langen Nawung Asmara). The female dancer, Susindahati, becomes the centre of attention as she does her household duties and then goes to the Secondary School of Performing Arts for classes in teaching theory and practical training in the Golek Asmarandana dance. Susindahati's generation is concerned with the perfecting of technical mastery. It is the older generation who can explain the importance of dance as a discipline, and the ideas associated with it.
