JEWS excavates a lost world of manners and ritual in home movies shot by several Chicago families from the 1920s through the 1940s. Much as in similar found footage soliloquies by Péter Forgács, Jay Rosenblatt and Ken Jacobs, director Roger Deutsch wrings unexpected pathos from mundane traces of the past. Children mug for the camera with dances of the day, upright mothers march their strollers up the avenue, men smoke, the family gathers around the table to light the candles. The bare title cannot help but raise the specter of contemporaneous events in Europe, lending an extra degree of urgency to the film's meditation on disappearance. - Max Goldberg

This celebration of western culture took place in Skagaströnd, a village of 700 inhabitants in the north of Iceland, and was attended by Iceland's leading country singers. This documentary describes, in an objective fashion, the general atmosphere of the festival and gives a portrait of the star of the show, Hallbjörn Hjartarson and his views on life and stardom.

On the annual motorcycle tour of big friends, there's trouble this time. Markus has brought his girlfriend Marion along, even though no one has ever had his girl with them. And Werner, who actually wants to get married and to whose bachelor party everyone is invited after the tour, is missing.

Sevda is studying hospitality at a college. As part of the program, students will be sent to different cities across the country for internships. Sevda is among the students who will be sent to Izmir. The students sent to a resort in Izmir will work in different jobs. When the group arrives at the resort, a brief introductory meeting is held with the hotel owner, Mr. Ekrem. Upon hearing Sevda's name, Mr. Ekrem is surprised. However, he refuses to reveal the secret behind his interest in Sevda. Meanwhile, Sevda, who has started working at the hotel, and Bülent, who is working as a captain on a nearby boat, quickly develop a close relationship that turns into love. Meanwhile, Ekrem Bey is heading to Istanbul to uncover an important truth about Sevda's life.

Photographer Gundula Schulze wrote her graduate thesis on "nude photography of women in East Germany". It's a subject she continues to pursue in her photography. She considers the stereotype of superficial nude photography anachronistic, and talks vividly about being at pains to develop a relationship of trust with the women she photographs. Schulze wants to show what makes up the "whole woman", living up to her position in East Germany. Scenes of women in the professional world have been edited into the film.

Beat This: A Hip-Hop History is a 1984 BBC documentary film about hip-hop culture, directed by Dick Fontaine. The cast includes Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc — the film includes footage from Herc's original dance parties — The Cold Crush Brothers, Jazzy Jay, Brim Fuentes, and The Dynamic Rockers. It is narrated by Imhotep Gary Byrd. Originally part of the Arena television series, it was among the first crop of documentaries about hip-hop.

Taulant is a 4 year old only child, who is lonesome and wants a sister. However, despite his request, his parents keep ignoring him. Slowly, his parents start listening to him more and decide to consider his request more seriously.

Jang, a North Korean general, surrenders to Captain Lee of the South. Lee presses him for information which Jang agrees to supply on the condition that Lee helps him locate his wife who had defected to South Korea many years earlier. Coincidently, Jang's wife is now married to Captain Lee who must decide whether or not to re-unite them for the sake of his country.

This film completes a trilogy of landscape/poetry films, which include “Waterworx” (1982) and “Landfall” (1983), and was shot near the family home on the Northumberland Strait in Prince Edward Island. In writing the text for “Beach Events,” I wanted to challenge the cinema's dominant present tense by imitating primitive “event” poetry, referring superficially to action present on the screen, but gradually slipping out of synchronization with its referent. This practice, together with reading a kind of sub-conscious, internal monologue (also based on the film's events, but only those past and future), helps the viewer transcend the spectacle of the present, and be aware of a larger temporal universe. In this film it informs a dialectic of internal and external nature, temporal presence and absence, the conscious and sub-conscious. (RH)

Everything changes with the arrival of a grandmother from another city. The family receives her coldly. Only the grandson is happy about her arrival. But as if by magic, order comes into the house, things are put in their places, the dishes are washed in the kitchen, and how delicious the food and pies are from grandma! The parents now argue less among themselves, the son is well-groomed and cheerful. But the grandmother leaves as suddenly as she arrived, and now her arrival is awaited with great impatience, and even the mother hopes that the mother-in-law will stay with them longer.
