Cinematic Era: 1983 Vintage

The story of a Cajamarca hacienda in the moments before and after the Agrarian Reform Law of 1999. The difficult situation of the owning family is presented. But also that of the bureaucratic, ecclesiastical, and judicial authorities of the place, incapable of mediating the conflicts between the parties. Meanwhile, the peasants decide to take over the hacienda. The "fool" Sabino clearly sees what will happen to the lands. With the arrival of the Agrarian Reform, the problems persist: there are no agricultural loans, and the bureaucrats and technicians have replaced the landowner.

In this famous zoological fantasy composed in 1886, the Andre Tahon Puppets come to life with frenzy, accompanying the humorous musical suite of the looks, noises and movements of certain animals: the lion, kangaroos, hens, elephants, etc.

The tape is about the way AIDS has been represented by medical journalism in particular and the dominant media in general. Contemporary medical research is destroying a movement that the gay liberation movement has built up, that is an autonomous, proud, homoerotic body, and is reconstructing that body as a pathological and morbid body that shows symptoms of disease.

The Chukus de Canas are one of the most important traditional Andean celebrations due to their symbolic significance. They perform only during Carnival, donning their impressive costumes and gathering in the small towns of the highland provinces at this time. This celebration is also linked to the agricultural cycle, as this period is critical for the ripening of crops grown in the region.

Drawing on documented historical and contemporary material from two arms factories in the - the town of Oberndorf in Swabia, the documentary reveals the intertwined nature of the idyllic town of Oberndorf and global conflicts with their military confrontations.

The stockmen of the bush had a hard life. Malcolm journeys on horseback with a group of these men into the rugged Kimberley Ranges, looking for wild scrub cattle, cave paintings and Aboriginal burial grounds.

The film explores the rural life and feelings of the Iteso people of Kenya. The African sense of community is experienced through their daily activities ranging from farming to storytelling. The film portrays the Iteso’s spirit of sharing and reciprocal giving, values which contribute to the unity and survival of communities in Africa. The film is narrated by members of the Iteso community.

Ilan Yagoda’s short which he made as his graduation project from the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts’s film department, is a documentary that follows the story of far-left activist Rami Livneh, who had been a member of numerous Israeli reactionary organisations such as Compass (‘matzpen’), Struggle (ma’avak), and the Revolutionary Socialist Movement. Livenh was handed a prison sentence for liaising with a foreign agent, a Palestinian student affiliated with Fatah. Yaguda spent a full weekend shadowing Livneh and his family, six years after his release from prison and the very next day following the fatal domestic terror attack at a ‘Peace Now’ Jerusalem demonstration where a grenade thrown into the crowd claimed the life of Emil Grünzweig. The [originally Hebrew-rhyming] title of the film is also the name of a children’s story Livenh wrote for his kids whilst behind bars, about a boy who always does as he’s told as opposed to what he really wants to do.

Produced by Syracuse University, The New Americans follows one Cambodian family and their friends who have escaped genocide and resttled in Syracuse, New York. They describe their challenges adjusting to life in a new country while navigating the bureaucracy of local and state agencies.

A study of the economic relationship between developing countries and industrialized nations, developed using the example of an agricultural cooperative in Upper Volta. Beans are grown on huge monocultures for the European market, largely displacing the cultivation of urgently needed staple foods. The critical essence of the film is largely weakened by confusing dramatic effects and overly simplistic symbolism.

In India seventy percent of burn cases are women. Many of these cases are attributed to dowry practice. Although the Dowry Prohibition Act was passed in 1961, it has been a disastrous failure with respect to enforcement. This powerful documentary by Meera Dewan focus on the cases of two dowry victims.

The Bitterfeld lignite combine includes a large number of lignite plants, open-cast mines, power stations and briquette factories. The film presents several mining professions, shows miners' jobs, mostly in connection with modern mining technology, and points out the great prospects that mining offers in a wide variety of professions.

Li Caifeng, a village girl proud of her beauty, measures potential husbands by the size of their bride price, earning her the nickname “the high-price girl.” At first, she falls in love with Dunzi, a young man from her village, and accepts his bride price. But she soon dumps him, looking down on him as a plain, rough-mannered farmer. Heartbroken, Dunzi turns to alcohol. Caifeng’s sister, Caijuan, encourages him to pull himself together, and he eventually returns to farm work with renewed purpose. In time, Dunzi and Caijuan, united by shared values, marry and build a happy life together. Later, Caifeng begins a relationship with Cheng Lin, a contract worker at the county agricultural machinery factory. But when his contract ends and he must return to farming, she rejects him as well. With the warm support of Liyun, the daughter of Aunt Ba, Cheng Lin studies hard, gains admission to an agricultural college, and finds sincere love with Liyun.
