Karl Kels' first film is a playful short piece comprised of shots of haystacks in the countryside. Quick repetitions of frames and the dance-like rhythm in which the frames are combined create an illusion of movement within the single shot in which no actual movement takes place, save for one passing car. The combination of different images in short sequences forces a new reality upon the haystacks, making them move in every possible direction. Short as it is, this debut already puts its finger upon some of the characteristics that have remained of great importance throughout Kels' entire work so far: the inseparable world of the single frame and time as an artistic controlling device.

In commemoration of International Women's Day, a short film set in 19th-century Lima tells the story of the "tapadas," women who, hidden beneath their skirts and shawls, defied social norms by finding freedom and independence in anonymity. Admired by artists and chroniclers for their audacity and charm, these women transformed the city into a space of female liberation, despite condemnation from the Church, authorities, and the medical establishment, which attempted to prohibit their clothing and behavior. Through their own voices, the film reconstructs their resistance against these impositions, revealing a silent struggle where identity, desire, and rebellion intertwine in the streets of Lima.

Even the characters remain in the background and do not play a "leading role." The film's underlying theme: serene landscapes, a shadow passing through the image, fear and paralysis.

A film consisting primarily of rapid segments shot in and around New York City with original music and sound usually cut in equal length to each image. The principal subject of the film is New York street culture: birds, dogs, transportation, derelicts, pedestrians and seamy life, intercut with a very few fragments of nature, indoor and simple subjects. Each sound has been written as dialogue or collected from the radio or produced on synthesizer to accompany each image and establish attitude: amusement, amazement, contrast, bewilderment, humor, absurdity.
