Cantaloup is an informal documentary on the Vasulkas' Digital Image Articulator, an imaging device they designed with Jeffrey Schier. Using a cantaloup and the three artist/designers as source material, Steina explains the capabilities of the machine, including its real-time imaging ability and the articulation of images in a digital code. She describes the varying sizes of pixels (picture elements), the layers (or slices) of color and tone that can be derived from one image, and techniques such as "grabbing" the image and multiplying it. This document offers an informative demonstration of a complex imaging device.

"Ciné-Verité" is a self-reflexive movie that questions the underlying forces behind television reporting and, in a broader sense, films of different genres. The main character is a young television employee making her first attempts at reporting. She interviews ordinary people in an attempt to obtain authentic life stories (some of the footage that director Laurențiu Damian includes in the fictional fabric is real), but the idealistic reporter's work is repeatedly rejected by her boss, which eventually leads her to resort to the conventional solution of using a commentary that explains the footage in wooden language.

The film is mainly based on slides from the horticulturist and life philosopher Anders Björnsson's garden along the northern Klarälven River in Sweden. The film is an early attempt to portray our threatened relationship with ecology. The tableau-like still images underline the shifts of light and the biological cycle.

The title of this video work, ‘Running Time’, refers to its duration. A figure running in landscape from infinity towards and past the camera is foreshadowed by a repeating image of himself. The soundtrack, treated similarly to the image, is made from recycling loops of a heartbeat. Both image and sound progress from the unidentifiable to the recognizable. In close relation to other works from this period, the central focus is on the pattern of lines that function as the basic building blocks of the video image, structuring visual representation in a significant way.

This film records the most spectacular sacred ceremony of the Balinese people. The Eka Dasa Rudra, or Festival of the 11 Powers, was held by order of the high priests to restore the balance between good and evil in the universe. The entire Balinese population of two million participated. In Bali, religion governs all aspects of life. A complex synthesis of Buddhism, animism, Sivaism and Hinduism, its rituals go back to the dawn of time. The film captures the sight and sound of this richly textured event.

This series was written by Marian Pilot, one of the leading representatives of the so-called 'peasant trend' in contemporary Polish literature. The writer outlined the image of the village at the turn of the 1980s on the example of the Małolepsza family from the village of Gudzewo. They manage a few hectares, the older children left for the city, they settled in, one of the sons even became a lawyer. Twenty-year-old Bolek stayed with his parents, a boy willing to "fight and drink", wandering with his peers as crude as he was, lonely, because most of the girls fled to the city.

The difficult and vain attempts of a young woman to rehabilitate the memory of her father, accused of a crime committed by one of his workers...

A visual and musical elaboration on the Crab Canon in which the theme of intersecting beams is played against itself going backwards.

Based on a novel by Akagi Motoko; a physiological literary world written by a 20-year-old woman for a radio drama. While a girl misses the last train and spends the night in a phone booth, the words she speaks into the empty receiver impress us with her pregnant tenderness rather than the sadness of her separation from him. Gradually, as we see the gaps in her life, the death of her twin sister when she was a child, her desire to be independent from her mother, and the fact that she really misses him, the movement of images becomes the movement of emotions. The phone booth that is supposed to protect her from the rain looks like a womb, but it is actually cold. When she realizes this, the morning arrives.

The war has been going on for some time. Every day, Take Five, a guard protecting the deserted border district of Firebird, sits alone by his radio. It doesn't matter to him what's going on in the war front. His daily routine is to enjoy a game of radio poker with his unknown colleague on the other end of the radio. Marina, a young girl who vaguely believes in the happiness of the phantom city, comes to the border to board a refugee ship bound for Shanghai. However, her future is crushed by a ruthless gunshot... Fear and a sense of danger in a controlled society where dreams, hopes, and cravings for freedom lead to death. The hard-boiled narrative, which telegraphs the need to lament, is very stylish and wonderful.

Using the phenomenon of inverted (or negative) video feedback, this work constructs a one-to-one correspondence between recited text and image. Black and white rectangles, embedded one within another against a black background, are generated through a closed-circuit system: a camera’s signal is inverted and displayed on a monitor that the same camera is framing. The camera, as it were, sees itself seeing itself seeing itself and so on. (It’s the inversion itself that produces the alternating black and white rectangles). The number of rectangles is based on a precise score involving seven channels of chanted text (all in the voice of the artist)—a kind of “language canon.”

The film follows walking feet and progresses to a preoccupation with the dancing shadow of the camera and the filmmaker. Much of the footage was home-processed to obtain the golden colours and solarization effects. In part the film documents the marking out of suburban space. By that I mean, that in suburban property the front and back yards form a private domain. This film tries to illuminate that space.

Small rips and tears progress with stunning rhythm to the ultimate split of our world. The imagery has a delicate sketchy quality that resonates against a subtle soundtrack to create an overwhelming mood between laughter and tears.
