With a keen sense of visual beauty, director Markku Lehmuskallio has created a thought-provoking, aesthetic film about a married couple and an old man living in a remote part of Finland. The young husband goes out hunting but only to support himself and his wife, not to kill off hordes of animals. He sets traps, and that gets him in trouble with the police who proceed to ticket him for using the devices. The forest cycles themselves are intimated when an old tree is shown falling to earth -- perhaps a reflection on the old man's passing years. In contrast to these few people living off the land and basically keeping the ecological balance intact, a highway construction crew is shown at work felling trees. Soon the antagonism grows between encroaching civilization and the quiet life of the young couple and elderly man.

Through interviews with Nazi leaders, their American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) attorneys, concentration camp survivors, and Rev. Jesse Jackson, the film presents a wide range of views on the Nazis' "right" to march in Skokie.

Alan Garner was the author of The Owl Service, one of the key texts within the recent fad for the English Wyrd. This early 1980’s documentary features Garner talking about his life and influences, and comes loaded with narrated excerpts from his books and eerie musical interludes and recorded screams that are curiously reminiscent of The League Of Gentlemen. Other scenes of Garner wandering around his key sites of inspiration – mainly around Alderley Edge in Cheshire – look like they’re from the early days of pop videos, with shaky hand-held footage and sudden zooms into blacked-out windows and strange rock formations. Somehow it all adds to the sincere intention of introducing Garner’s unusual body of work to the unsuspecting viewer.

Deprived of a clear beginning and end of the film grain is a dynamic and expressive story artist on the confrontation of man with the surrounding reality and negotiate its own borders in the world. Just like in the movie Day after day she comes into spontaneous, extremely physical contact with the environment being examined but this time the material culture and its impact on subjectivity and gender culture but showing the primary structure of modern human iconosphere. Compile your own body with archetypal images of dirt , pleasure, mundane, luxury, constantly moving accents of his interaction with the environment, and its insatiable touch it reduces itself to the level of a shred of living matter. Full abstract beautiful visions intermingle to form a complex structure of meaning and visual. Film lived to see many readings in the key feminist. She updates here the issues of female sexuality in the contemporary sphere of meanings and symbols.

It was while studying this film that I decided to group these ‘romans’ under the title Roman Numeral Series and to give up the term ‘imagnostic’ altogether… also to dedicate the series to Don Yannacito who had seen something ‘concrete’ and even narratively dramatic in is this work. The term deja vu comes to mind each time I view this film – this, then, somehow the echoing of the birth of imagery. – S.B.

German League of Girls in the Hitler Youth movement. By age 10, all German girls were required to join the BDM. The BDM was the female organization under the Hitler Youth. At age 17 the girls could join the Belief and Beauty movement within the BDM. The primary focus of both movements was special training to become good wives mothers and homemakers. They learned cooking, sewing, child care . They learned all about Germany's leader Adolf Hitler and Nazism. My mother grew up in Nazi Germany and her stories about the BDM were very interesting. The children were not involved in the atrocities that occurred.
