A short experimental film about depression

In this Roy Spence film, created for the Ulster Folk Museum, Joe O’Neill shows a range of blacksmithing skills and techniques using tools and methods that have not changed in centuries. These include heat welding, scarfing, scrolling, curling and bending. All completed in a traditional simple forge. The original version of the film included an audio track explaining the history, tools and techniques of a blacksmith, however even as a silent film, the powerful visuals of this timeless skill remains evident.

In the video "Self-portrait 78," Kwak Duck-jun filmed himself rubbing his face against cracked glass in which his eyes, nose and lips appeared twisted and contorted. While looking silly at first, he expressed his deepest desire to overcome his uncomfortable identity crisis.

A film about a typical winter season on board an Icelandic fishing boat. The boat, Gunnar Jónsson, starts off from the Westman Islands and is at first mainly engaged in capelin fishing for fishmeal production. When January comes, the men start preparing for the traditional cod fishing period.

An eighteen year old male talks of his up coming sex change and how he imagines life as a woman. The talk is frank and informative.

In this elegant, muted suite of three miniatures, Michishita captures the snowy landscape of Sapporo with a refined eye for its shadows and textures.

A teenager, a costume, an identity

The story of the tragedy of a young family in which a child with Down syndrome was born. It is shown in detail and at the same time very delicately how a geneticist searches for the causes of the pathology that has arisen, telling what genetics can really do at this stage.

The film was made at a turning point in the struggle in Sanrizuka, documenting the actions against the first flights in Narita. The film chronicles the Sanrizuka struggle and the spring events that led to the occupation of the airport’s control tower by one of the factions in the opposition struggle.

Every year, in the colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala, the "sorrowful way" of Good Friday is recreated by a path of colored sawdust and flower petals. Along this road several hundred people take turns carrying a ponderous mahoganybier.

On 7 July 1978, the Solomon Islands regained its independence from Britain. This documentary, filmed by cinematographers John Hosking and Academy Award winner Dean Semler, looks at the people of these islands and their views on independence, and records aspects of their way of life, including their songs and dances. It also describes some of the problems facing the new nation and what is being done to combat them.

Born in Tokyo in 1959. While studying oil painting at Musashino Art University, he joined the animation club "Mysterious Magic Lantern Society" and began creating films. In 1980, he joined the independent film screening group "Animation 80" upon its establishment and has been submitting works every year since then. His works have been exhibited at numerous festivals, including the "Torino International Film Festival" (1986, Turin, Italy), the "Shanghai Animation Festival" (1988, Shanghai, China), and "The Evolution of Animation" (1988, O Museum). His unique worldview blends elegance and grotesqueness, and he continues to explore a wide range of expressive techniques, including two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and live-action animation.

A film adaptation of Kazuo Umezu's manga with mysterious images that express time. In the short time of only 4 minutes, the original flavour of the original work and the artist's unique perspective are skillfully intertwined and condensed, and the original images that make us feel the passage of time are a sight to behold.

A 17-image exercise using freeze frames of a tenement hallway.

The swimmer is presented as a simple, genderless and isolated identity making new appearances natural, but which nevertheless contain a contradiction: swimming as a way of survival. The pictorial potential has been linked above all to a graphic preoccupation, and the sound illustration represents an important support to the basic idea.

Jacqueline Frazier’s Azz Izz Jazz showcases jazz legend Billie Harris who performs in studio with a quartet featuring Harris on soprano sax. Among the songs performed is “I Want Some Water,” a composition that Harris, in voice-over, credits, as with all his songs, to his young children who were his inspiration.

The Stool Becomes the Ladder was made in 1978, using techniques of video feedback, quantizing levels and chroma, and simple downstream text. The stool is transformed into a ladder.

This film is about the new teaching method that Mohammad Bahman Beigi has used to teach to All Nomadic Children.

The story takes place in the Lowveld and is about the illegal burning and marketing of the sacred moisture, popularly known as Withond. A drinking war breaks out between two grumpy old men - A farmer against an Englishman. Uncle Koos and his daughter, Sopie, make a good profit from the sale of their white blitz, which they secretly heat in the valley and sell to the local hotelier. But one day Solly refuses to buy their stock. He has a new supplier, and this peach brandy is just as delicious as Oom Koos' white blitz - just cheaper. Oom Koos is shocked and it turns into a drinking competition to see whose moisture is the best. Very soon, Oom Koos and the Colonel are together, and Sopie and Peter, the Colonel's son, have to cheer each other up just before their father and get the local sergeant sniffed.
