The documentary tells the story of the Volksmarinedivision, which was formed by revolting sailors stationed in Berlin during the November Revolution. Starting with the November Revolution itself and the founding of the Volksmarinedivision, the main focus is on the political developments surrounding it and its involvement in the battles for the Berlin City Palace at Christmas 1918 and the unrest in January and March 1919, during which the Volksmarinedivision was smashed by the Freikorps and its members persecuted. Due to its proximity to the Spartacus League and the KPD, which had just been founded at the time, the Volksmarinedivision was an important point of reference for GDR historical politics and the patron saint of the GDR's Volksmarine.

"Extending from PERIPETEIA 1 - a navigation by light, contrasting the camera's fixed sight with "in site" movement. A sculpture of glass, mirrors and film vies with the choreography of the cardinal points: dense shelter, rain, red emulsion. Filmed in the Oregon coastal forest, June." - A.C.

A film about people and the space in which they live. From country cottage to council flats, stately detached houses, railway arches and tiny bedsitters - this is a journey with the camera through living rooms of all sizes, designed in all kinds of taste. It's a journey, too, through the lives of the people who inhabit these rooms; a film producer who lives in an empty house with bare walls and floor, a young Gloucestershire couple who have filled every inch of space with mementoes of their life together, an artist's model whose walls are crammed with paintings of herself, an architect who lives in a bedsit one-and-a-half metres square. Couples, families and single people appear in this film, some happy and secure within their living space, others lonely, or simply alone.

Sepia toning lends a romantic (even wistful) quality to Larry Jordan's film Visions of a City, which he shot in San Francisco in 1957 and edited in 1978. The pace is un-irritating, in contrast to the San Francisco of today; but unlike the equal weight Helen Levill gives to all her subjects, there is an internal evolutionary development in the Jordan film that ultimately delivers a story. Until the introduction of the human protagonist, poet Michael McClure, we are treated to an extravagant display of visual delights.
