"FOREGROUNDS, like SAUGUS SERIES, is devoted almost entirely to carefully constructed spatial ambiguities. The most visceral of these prints a rotating boulder, occupying half of the screen, over a slow lateral pan across the desert (painted by Neon Park). A faint superimposition of leaves on top of the landscape has the effect of pushing its vista farther back in space. Correspondingly, the boulder bulges out of the picture-plane like a Cezanne apple. The effect is so strong that even when O'Neill begins to animate 'scratches' over the image, one's eye refuses to surrender the illusion of volume." - J. Hoberman, The Village Voice

The film conversation centers around workplace safety and the concept of personal responsibility. Ron and Mary discuss Ron's recent vacation and then transition to a review of recent workplace accidents. These incidents include an electrician falling due to a missing safety cone, a worker getting a shock from faulty equipment, and a drill press operator injuring his finger due to an improperly secured backup bar. They identify a common issue: the "let George do it" syndrome, where employees assume someone else will handle safety checks. They emphasize the importance of personal responsibility in safety practices and propose using these cases in training programs to illustrate the need for vigilance and proactive safety measures. The conversation ends with a story from Ron about a past mistake, highlighting the critical lesson of not taking safety for granted and ensuring one's own and others' safety by not relying on others to always handle safety checks.

"Fabric Stories", discovered in the Channel 1 archive, provides a snapshot of Israeli fashion — but more than that, it reveals the formative struggles of one of the most important filmmakers to emerge in Israeli cinema. Produced in 1978, five years before Gutman directed his first narrative feature, Drifting, the film appears at first glance to be a documentary about the Israeli fashion scene in the late 1970s. In reality, it is a work that uses the world of fashion as a kind of cinematic language, shifting styles from one scene to the next. This is not a conventional documentary where people speak alongside fashion show clips, but an almost surreal journey into what Gutman himself perceived as fashion. The film’s unique style irritated Channel 1 executives and TV critics, and after a single broadcast, it was shelved. In 2010, thanks to the efforts of Itay Yaakov, the film was rediscovered and restored.

"The VAG exhibition space was staged with a four walled cube, 8’X 8’ which was padded internally. The four walls and the open ceiling were monitored by video cameras. Wong entered the gallery, climbed a ladder and disappeared into the blue cube. Personally I was very uneasy about the work at this time. Knowing that [Kenneth] Fletcher was a close friend of Wong’s who had only months before committed suicide. I felt perhaps Wong would attempt his own cathartic self-mutilation as we all watched. As Wong’s slow pacing and wall assaulting became more intense the audience picked up the momentum of his energies. The intensity of the performance became overpowering. Not knowing how far Wong has planned his own movements, one began to wonder if he was indeed going to bash himself into unconsciousness as some observers had predicted." - Arthur Perry, Vanguard Magazine 1979
