But, in December 1976, an official report revealed that thousands of children who could be saved were dying.

Jenny is a teenage girl in a same-sex relationship, and JENNY lets her speak plainly about it. She talks about what the relationship means to her, how she sees the lesbian scene, and how others see her. There’s no sweeping drama or moral panic – just an honest portrait of one young person navigating identity, attraction and assumptions. Made in 1978, it’s one of the rare screen documents of queer youth from the era – clear-eyed, unsentimental and ahead of its time.

The life and death of the fictional star Wilma Montesi is reported in the form of a staged newsreel. Excerpts from films of various genres and eras are juxtaposed with "documentary material" about the star's public and private life. By stringing together clichés and cinematic quotations, a certain reporting and narrative style about the glamor and misery of show business is presented in a critical and ironic, but at the same time entertaining way.

"The more recent MOVIE STILLS (1977) is a melancholy procession of frozen moments being born, ripening, beginning to die before our eyes. Murphy selected 16 frames from a found home movie, photogrpahed them with a polaroid camera, then filmed the three minutes it took each image to materialize. Because of the higher contrast caused by this rephotography, the pictures seem to be darkening past their prime just as Murphy cuts to the enxt. Every shot starts out white and there's a key element of suspense as one's retitnal afterimages compete with the emerging forms of the developing photo. After a while, the ghost of an anecdote – a woman and two men mugging for the camera, an odd flirtation – develops too. 'A photograph is a secret about a secret,' Diane Arbus once wrote. '"–J. Hoberman, Village Voice.
