Were nineteenth century operas to their age what Hollywood superproductions are to ours?' Andreas Velissaropoulos asks.... He describes his film as ‘a surrealist “poorman's superproduction,” full of cultural and historical allusions, contrasting with short glimpses of contemporary reality concerning life and mentalities of young inhabitants of modern Athens.' The sound track uses the music of Beethoven, Bach, Berg, Schoenberg, Richard Strauss and Wagner. Balinese monkey chants, pop culture, symbols of fates, seasons and the elements are interwoven.

A succession of visual emotions in a sort of “filmed rotogravure,” where sequences and segments follow an ironic and dramatic logic that highlights the obsessions, the poverty, and the myths that shook the neoconsumerist society of those years. This approach frames, but at the same time transcends, pure reportage, venturing into a reflection on the meaning of seeing and imagining. The techniques employed range from direct rotoscope to works-in-progress, from citationism to photographic contamination.

A "young woman who finds herself surrounded by the relics of Western culture" is the subject of Richard Foreman's formal tableaux. The narration centers on a young woman's struggle to find a relation between her body and her self as mediated by language. The text is a poetry of formal relations that carries personal and historical implications, including the desires of the woman paradoxically voiced by a male narrator. The title suggests the vivid virtuality of dreaming; scenes repeatedly refer to both reading and sleeping.

"Strategy and imagery combat and aid each other in pairs. QUATERNION...a spatial figure of monumental attractions...interference...an undulating gyre. Hollis superimposes a fragmenting Muybridge-like grid of Cartesian elements (details of the fire ecscape outside the studio) against shots of rooftops superimposed in perfect scale with the billboard-like segments of an automobile, enlarged flower, and a spoon...panels of the 20' x 20' mural for the New York World's Fair in James Rosenquist's Broome Street studio–New York, mid-1960s."–Patrick Clancy

GARAGE SALE is a campy feature centered on a story of marital upheaval between drag queen Goldie Glitters and her fair-haired husband, Hero. A onetime member of San Francisco’s legendary Cockettes theatre troupe, Goldie was famously crowned Santa Monica College’s 1975 Homecoming Queen, captured in Bruce Yonemoto’s documentary HOMECOMING (1975). GARAGE SALE subverts the drag aspect of Goldie’s performance enabling her to sympathetically play a woman whose fantasies and expectations have been shaped by Hollywood romance films. The film follows the couple as Hero tries to regain Goldie’s love by seeking the advice of a cast of eccentric characters.

"When I look for the lightning, it never strikes. When I look away, it does." Filmed inside a car, this tape focuses on observation of natural phenomena, presenting the obverse of the "If a tree falls in the woods..." conundrum. Does observation change the course of events? Can you believe in things you don't see? In this experiment, the camera occupies a privileged position showing the woman and what she sees, as well as what she cannot see. Filmmaker Deborah Stratman cites "Lightning" as an influence, saying "This video seems to me in some small way what the magic of filmmaking is all about."
