16mm color documentary based on fieldwork William Ferris conducted with African American storytellers and bluesmen in the communities of Leland and Rose Hill, Mississippi. The stories include include folk and religious tales, jokes, toast telling sessions, and characters from African American oral tradition. The film also includes footage filmed at churches and juke joints.

Blood Inside Outside, demonstrates the pioneering feminist artist’s exploration of the multiple layers of meaning ascribed to blood—from death to rebirth. This presentation of the film by the late artist (Cuban, 1948-1985) is accompanied by rare lifetime photographs from the artist’s Body Tracks series as well as her elegant drawings of abstracted outlines of palaeolithic goddesses, repeatedly inscribed on a variety of surfaces, from modern paper to an actual leaf to an ancient style of bark cloth.

The film draws an analogy between the cutting and suturing of the human body and the reconstruction of the world through film. Using optical printing techniques, it connects diverse elements in a dream-like flow: a vision of mind at play amid the anxieties of our society. It's also an operation on our image systems, including cinema.

This is a short film created for the CBC documenting the works and achievements of Tamara Jaworska, Tad Jaworsk’s wife. Tamara is a world renown tapestry artist , an international Golden Medalist with many international awards and accolades who in 1994 received the Order of Canada. In this film she muses about the way in which the Canadian landscape influences her work, what goes in to creating a tapestry and the way she works on her loom in her Toronto Willowdale studio.

Shed Tears for the River is a sponsored documentary, and is notable as the first film made by the South Australian Film Corporation, set up and financed by the South Australian state government. It celebrates the indigenous identification with river and land, and then looks at the degradation and destruction of the natural environment of the Murray river system in South Australia by human activities … riverboats, houseboats, leisure craft, shacks, development and the filling in of swamps, agriculture and industry and their polluting ways, whether via chemicals, detergents, excrement, fertilizers, barrages, locks, and salts produced by irrigation.

Three Latin dancers in a nightclub in Queens make up, and do a samba, a merengue and an afro-cuban dance. Filmed both tongue-in-cheek with humor and satire at the kitsch aspects, and also seriously as a tribute to the culture's ancient sensuality.

Pine Barrens is concerned with evoking through film a barren wilderness in south-central New Jersey. The camera is always in motion — tracking, pivoting, and walking through the landscape. Though they are never seen in the film, the voices of the local people, the 'Pineys,' are heard relating their feelings about the land, their attitudes about city life, their myths of the area, etc. their voices and the music of 'Bill Patton's Pine Barrens Trio' add a psychological dimension to the landscape.

“Being a bricklayer, this was one of my most important films. It represents eight hours of work...you start your early morning, you look at the work which is in front of you—then you get stuck into it—you have a morning tea, then you have lunch—and in the afternoon, of course, you knock off. I wanted to construct the 22 minutes of film very much like how I laid bricks in the physical sense—with a trowel and mortar. So I worked out a rhythm for the film—I had 3 frames, 6 frames, 12 frames, and 24 frames, and virtually all of it was done single-frame. For the soundtrack I used myself laying bricks in real time—you lay the trowel, you scrape it, you take off the ‘mud’, etc, and that continues right through the film. Some people refer to this as a ‘structural’ film…rather this is a film by a bricklayer who knows the material very well.” (Paull Winkler)

In the kingdom of Boravia, a war erupted between the Waggles and the Dros after the discovery of a massive diamond. Initially living in harmony, their relationship soured when the diamond became a point of contention. The Dros, determined to keep the diamond, cut it into smaller gems to hide them from the Waggles. After a prolonged conflict, the Waggles captured the Dros' fortress but found the diamond missing. The Dros had successfully smuggled the smaller gems away. Eventually, both sides agreed to peace and divided the gems among their families, leaving one stone to symbolize their shared history of greed and conflict.

In Aparecida do Norte, São Paulo, devotion to Saint Benedict has been constant since 1828. Folk groups from various regions of the country sing and dance, while the King, Queen, and their vassals, carrying the image of Saint Benedict, walk through the streets toward the church. The city is covered with rose petals and confetti. At night, after the solemn mass, a large fireworks display lights up the city.
