For the Turks, the Federal Republic of Germany has become a magnet and a hope of escaping the social problems of their homeland; however, they also face social problems in the Federal Republic.

This documentary discusses a mysterious priest named Berenger Sauniere who allegedly discovered a secret treasure in his church at Rennes-le-Chateau in southern France. The program takes a fanciful journey as to whether the treasure existed and what might have been its source. It also seeks to connect Sauniere with the mythological "secret society" known as the Priory of Sion. The 1982 book Holy Blood, Holy Grail and Dan Brown's 2003 novel The Da Vinci code are both inspired by the Rennes-le-Chateau myth.

We briefly visit a vast array of various flying objects.

One of Nam June Paik’s most iconic works, TV Buddha expresses the contrasts and parallels between East and West and between technology and spirituality in a very simple and direct way. A CCTV camera films a Buddha statue, which Paik bought from an antique store. Its static, silent image appears live on a round TV set, inspired by popular sci-fi imagery. Here the Buddha is both the viewer and the viewed image, mirroring our own experience as mass media consumers.

Stoff (1) is part of a series of films made for television and aimed at young audiences. The series was dedicated to the history and techniques behind the production of objects, materials (paper, letterpress, fabrics, etc.), highlighting the differences between artisanal and industrial production and the labour and economic relations involved in each of these methods of making things.

In March 1974, Hungarian television recorded a concert by Tamás Cseh and Ad Libitum as a live concert for two days (16-17) in the largest lecture hall of the Budapest University of Technology in front of a crowded student audience. The recording was made in black and white on magnetic tape by a car that drove up to the building.

Harambee is a traditional Swahili chant meaning heave-ho or pull together the slogan for a united Kenya. Harambee Day or Independence Day is celebrated in this small town in North Kenya with political speeches and an auction at the native school. The film shows how North Kenya- isolated for years- tries to adapt to the new concept of nationhood. Government officials from South Kenya are appointed as ambassadors to spread the idea of national unity to a people unaccustomed to it.

Burckhardt collaborates with artist Simonds to produce a portrait of the artist as a foundation.

A collage of daily life in Aq Kupruk builds from the single voice that calls the townspeople to prayer, the brisk exchange of the baazar, communal labor in the fields, and the uninhibited sports and entertainment of rural Afghans. The theme of the film focuses on rural society. The film and accompaning instructor notes explore concepts of development, modernization, environmental equilibrium, and especially change, identifying change agents, and analyzing barries and stimulants to change.

The imagery and sound in Entering were performed 'live' by Donebauer and composer Simon Desorgher, and recorded in real time, using a colour TV studio at the Royal College of Art. Later Donebauer and Richard Monkhouse developed the Videokalos synthesiser, as an image-sound performance instrument. Entering was transmitted by the BBC in 1974.

A young "social investigator" meets a bohemian Englishman who decides to move in with her, disrupting her daily life and challenging her lifestyle and values.

Roman township of San Basilio: Fabio, 7 years old, in Italian a "character", is assigned to a differential class. How the family reacts, what the neighbors say, what the teachers, the principal, the psychologist of the elementary school think: the doubt is that there is no re-education of a child at stake, but the green light for social homologation.

A bitter, miserable man runs a chaotic secondhand store, mistreating both his assistant and his customers. One day, a young brother and sister enter his shop, hoping to sell a cherished golden watch. Their arrival disrupts the owner's stingy routines, plunging the children into a surreal, unpredictable world managed by eccentric adults. Frans Buyens’ mid-length feature is a whimsical, satirical fable exploring the clash between childhood innocence and adult greed.

Lionel Soukaz opens a wooden panel to discover the sky and comes across Italian workers singing. He longs for them and, when they leave in the evening, finds himself alone, watching television. This video mirror sends him back to his own time: Nixon, Giscard. So he dances like a cry for help: "Love me!”. The cross-dressing scenes are like a coming out, revealing the feminine side of the filmmaker at just twenty years of age.

A cartoon about a boy who pretended to be sick in order not to go to school, writing a note saying that he was sick and needed to call a doctor. A strange red-haired doctor came and gave pills, after which it is not necessary to go to school at all. He said they were magic. The boy did go to school, but he was late again. Then he decided to take the pill, after which began absolutely incredible events ...

Stockholm in the 70's. A shady world of sex clubs and porn shops. "Report from the red light district of Stockholm" might as well been called Mondo Stockholm. It is a Swedish pseudo documentary designed as cruising the underbelly of Stockholm, with a unhealthy mixture of authentic and faked scenes. The street scene of the night. An entire striptease number. A dark drama shot from a car driving through the central Stockholm, while the reporter interviews a prostitute in the backseat about her tariff.

The story takes place in the Tiger Forest in southern Tajikistan, where a poacher named Mamur, hiding behind the mask of an amateur naturalist, is wreaking havoc. Mamur is deeply afraid of tigers. A boy named Ravshan and his little sister Sitora step in to fight against the poacher’s wrongdoing.

In Mirror Check Jonas uses a small handheld mirror to inspect her naked body in front of an audience. Though her movements were visible to the spectators, Jonas did not allow them to see the fragmented image reflected in the mirror. As the artist recalls, “Mirror Check was inspired by the situation in the late 1960s and early ‘70s of the women’s movement and the idea of a woman reversing the gaze and claiming her body as her own.” First performed as part of Mirror Piece II (1970), the work was subsequently documented on its own and created into its own film. The cartoon is based on the motifs of the Georgian folk tale "half-of-handfuler" ("მუჭანახევარა"). How society forces a person to sing the way they think is right.

An attempt to come to grips with certain apparently basic paradoxes of the cinema. Mirrors function as a metaphor for a typical approach to film : the "accurate" reflection of a subject. But a mirror is almost the definition of a falsehood - it is a seductress, constantly attracting and repelling, never allowing one to see through it. Polyphemus, the cyclops, cannot emerge from his cave; the exit is illusory, almost within his grasp, but never tangible. The film ends pessimistically, no mode of escape having presented itself save for destruction. The film is comprised of three distinct rolls : a long backlit shot, a close-up, and a chaotic walking shot. They are intercut in a simple replacement pattern, with the walking shot serving as a constant.

An ordinary man wakes up in a world upside down! Illegible newspaper, people backing up, cars backing up: nothing is the same anymore, but everything seems to be going well.

Writes Campus, "I made this tape shortly after my father's death. His death permeates the tape, both in the quality of my performance and in the content. The performer makes a journey out of a seemingly real but obviously theatrical set through a moving corridor (the Holland Tunnel) and into a space of video noise. The idea of a journey from this world to another is most obviously stated, as the self divides into many parts, then finally dissolves into some energy fabric." Here Campus investigates the metaphorical significance of simultaneous and multiple video images coinciding in one time and space. Illusion and reality are conjoined as one image of himself observes another. Dislocation, displacement and transformation are manifested in the proliferation of self-images.

The land of Klynk is home to the piverter, small, droopy-eyed creatures who are always sad and dissatisfied. Although the land is a paradise, they are able to export their tears. The heir to the throne, Prince Piwi, has obtained some magazines from the Land of Humans and reads extensively about happiness. He decides to travel to the Land of Humans himself and bring back Happiness. However, the people he meets have very different ideas about what Happiness actually is. There are also a number of clever businesspeople who want to exploit Prince Piwi commercially, and soon gangsters and secret agents arrive too.

Shot at a steel mill, Winter Solstice is full of outpourings of fire, of smoke, of sparks, of molten metal — all erupting against an otherwise black background in an activated pictorial space.

Fei Lung kills his boss in a mining accident. After serving a jail sentence, he returns to his village and finds his former girl friend married to Ju Hu. Ju Hu has gambled his family's fortune. He then sells his house and land for more gambling money. He loses it all, after being cheated, and is then beaten to death by gangsters. Fei Lung is captured and framed for Ju Hu's murder. He is taken to jail but escapes. After a bloody fight with three gangsters, one of them confesses to killing Ju Hu. There is a tremendous battle between the police and the Gangsters. The Gangsters are defeated and Fei Lung's enemies are killed.

A revolutionary journalist tries to expose a corrupt, opportunistic politician who is making shady deals. The prominent politician tries to take revenge on him, using his intelligence and wide connections, by framing him in a murder that will silence him forever.

The film is about friendly and smart inhabitants of the desert.

"For 'Floor' I was interested in the limits of the frame and the idea of what was “in” and what was “out” and working all the way to the edge. So I set up a particular frame that would allow for a play between flatness and depth, between representations of a partial body and a full body. Douglas’s task was to do the same sequence of movement both forward and backwards in time." - Charles Atlas

Wasko analyses the relationship between space, sound (the microphone), and image (the camera). In this film/performance, the viewer becomes an active participant of the projection by making it possible to translocate sound from the visible space to the invisible space, and back.

All the hustle and bustle around the São Paulo's kilometre zero, with its noisy peddlers, shops and the usual drive in the Historic Center. In addition, the film documents the situation of public transport at the time and the large number of trades that already existed in the region. All this told by its regulars.

The film looks at the life and lot of three disturbed and lonely people, misfits and outcasts making an uphill attempt to live together in a condemned house in Sydney: a young epileptic Cynthia (Sally Blake), a middle-aged alcoholic Victor (Allan Penny) and a schizophrenic Annie (Denise Otto). When various doctors, social workers and freaks interfere in their lives without real understanding, a dangerous imbalance is created.

This documentary showcases the woodcut work of the artist José Sabogal (1888-1956), who started the Indigenist School of Peru.

The West Quarter

Matrix II explores the properties of images and sounds in the medium of video. Geometric shapes travel across a ‘matrix’ (grid) of cathode ray tube (CRT) screens. CRT televisions, which use manipulated electron beams to display images on a fluorescent screen, remained in widespread use until the early 2000s. The Vasulkas sought to test the limits of each monitor, creating a fluid motion resembling the behaviour of electronic signals. Matrix II is an early example of video art, which first developed in the late 1960s and 1970s as artists came into contact with new consumer technologies for capturing moving images.

This documentary about the Buchenwald concentration camp features interviews with survivors who describe their memories and experiences. The antifascist resistance movement within the camp played an important role in East German memorialization of this site; the interviews were edited to be consistant with the official version of the camp's history. Commissioned by the National Buchenwald Remembrance and Memorial Center.
