The light from the projector lens was projected through a sheet of ice, and the 8mm film was then immersed in a solution of diluted bleach and stirred to scratch it. After that, the dried film was peeled off. Traces of peeled emulsion were visible in the shape of perforations.

Lost Zulueta short

Horizontal Room Pan" was filmed in Haxton's Spring St. studio in New York, 1973. Strings were stretched across the studio from each of four walls. Random objects were placed in the studio. The camera was mounted on a tripod in the middle of the space. The film consists of a horizontal pan of the room, along the strings. The film installation is meant to be shown in a space that contains the strings and the random objects that appear in the filmed space.

This film is about one fo the eruptions of the well-known volcano, Hekla, in Southern Iceland. Usually the damage caused by Hekla is in the form of ashfall which ruins farmland and causes poisoning of animals. In some of the bigger eruptions, even farmlands in central Europe were affected by ash from Hekla. The eruption in this film occurred in 1970 and lasted a few weeks.

The most important technical accomplishment of "Year of the Mice" is that, though silent, the visuals evoke the presence of sound. One of the little sons is practicing the violin. As he plays, Couzin focuses in on his arm and bow connecting with the violin strings. The image is shot with 8mm film using a 16mm camera and optical printed back up to 16mm. The result is a strong repetitious gesture created by splitting the original image in half through the shooting process. When projected, the upper and lower halves of the image are shown alternately, creating an intense visual rhythm which causes the action to blur. As the boy's movements become relentlessly frantic, we can almost hear the strained screeches of the instrument. Perceptually there is no sound but the visual tension created causes us to experience the image as though we are hearing him play. We experience form of synesthesia, and the rhetoric is effective: the discomfort is so great we want the boy to stop.

The film does not end, is never rewound, and each frame is seen twice in a single viewing: a palindrome illustrating the Chicago "elevated," the backbone of the city, shuttling its oblivious passengers to death. In this animated film a black line becomes a magic cord to serve a small child's fancy. In Nébule's hands it becomes whatever he wills--a hoop to roll, a spring to jump on, a tight-rope, a dog, or a bird. The metamorphoses, played out against soft, pastel-coloured backgrounds, encompass all the world of a child's fears and fancies.

By 1973, Miles Davis and his bad were "fully electrified, with electric guitar and bass replacing the more traditional jazz instruments." Recording during the septet's European tour in that period, this Italian pressing on clear green vinyl captures jazz fusion at its finest - double drummers (James Mtume on congas and Al Foster on drums), a range of hand percussion instruments, Davis playing his trumpet through a wah wah pedal, funky organs, etc... If you're a Miles Davis fan, this is a no brainer!

The film is a testimony of the living conditions and struggles of the Lebanese students in France at the beginning of the 70s. Filmed by Jean Chamoun while he was a cinema student at Paris University, it raises a critical gaze on the education system in Lebanon, sexism, and structural racism in France.
