Cinematic Era: 1973 Vintage

Examines two opposing theories of moral development, that of Lawrence Kohlberg who believes that there are stages of moral development tied to cognitive development, and that of the learning theorists who contend that moral behaviour like all behaviour is learned, and that reasons for actions are irrelevant. Using Dr Stanley Milgrim’s famous obedience experiment each of the six stages of moral reasoning is represented in this film, one at a time, by six different participants. The stages differ in the types of reasons a person gives for making a decision about a moral dilemma and in the type of concern the person shows for the self, society, and authority.

The centerpiece of A. Grikevicius's film is Tomas Petreikis, the chief engineer of the machine factory in Kaunas F. Dzeržinskis. Rather than creating a regular, conjunctural narrative about the hero of socialist work that exceeds production norms, the director captures another personality of his film's hero. After work, Tom is an entertaining dancer, teacher and contest judge. "Construction and dancing? No, they don't not have any relation," T. Petreikis answers the question posed by the journalist. However, the film observes the parallels that reveal the precision of the constructor-dancer, the perfection of the goal, both by controlling the work of the machine tools and by teaching pairs of dancers to rotate on the parquet, imply another answer.

Serenade is a milestone in the history of dance. It is the first original ballet George Balanchine created in America in 1934, and is one of the signature works of New York City Ballet’s repertory. In its present form there are four movements: “Sonatina,” “Waltz,” “Russian Dance,” and “Elegy.” The last two movements reverse the order of Tschaikovsky’s score, ending the ballet on a note of sadness.

A film about the Westman Islands eruption in 1973, the destruction and the restoration work which began a year later.

Professor Algeras becomes the target of foreign agents working for major powers, who use every legitimate and illegitimate means at their disposal to try to get hold of his scientific discovery. The most ruthless and unscrupulous foreign agent, who ultimately traps Algeras, is Milko, who comes from the countries behind the Iron Curtain. It eventually transpires that Milko, who has been brainwashed, was the professor's only son, lost during the communist child abductions.

Viswanathan hopes to marry Gowri, but she is waiting for her lover Bindu, a poet; heartbreak ensues when Bindu returns as a greedy businessman who has abandoned his art, leading Gowri to choose Viswanathan instead.

A commentary on the destructive expectations of females in a male dominated society, Marilyn Times Five was made from an old stag film called "The Apple-Knockers, and the Coke"(1948) these sections of the film were set to Marilyn Monroe's song "I'm Through With Love". The film depicts a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like slowly taking her clothes off for the camera (the viewer). The woman's actions are looped several times which gives the audience a sensation of exhaustion. That exhaustion keeps building until the very end where the woman is shown crumpled on the floor in an awkward position, which makes it appear as if she is lifeless.

Illusions of surface, abstract to pictorial. Initially the grain of the film emulsion, complete with scratches, variations in framing – the meat of film – are the most apparent elements of all. The object shown is revealed to be a bowl of canned peaches. But even with identification, the visual illusions return – e. g., a concave surface becomes convex, the flat bottom of the bowl becomes an egg.

This French film follows one young man who leaves his Breton homeland and journeys to Paris with the intention of living there. Despite some success in finding work and friends, Paris is not home and the Parisians are not family, so he returns to work with his own people.

Docmentary about deep sea fishing community in North West England. This place was run very much as if it was in Victorian England. It was a one company town – all fishing – and if anybody stepped out of line they were chopped, they were sacked. As a result the working conditions, the money etc. were appalling and nobody dare say anything because if they spoke out: no job; and they weren’t given any explanation.

The film dialectically explores the phenomena of family alliances in urban and rural areas, technocracy, and the Algerian landed bourgeoisie. The film was completed but apparently never distributed by the ONCIC.
