A man walks towards the camera down the end of a street to the sound of 'Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet', a composition by Gavin Bryars based on a loop of an anonymous homeless man singing the song. The man’s voice is progressively intensified by an instrumental accompaniment, which increases in density and richness, before the whole thing gradually fades out. Dwoskin’s film was produced to be shown during the premiere of Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London in December 1972. For Dwoskin, it represents “… the singing voice of the last days of a London drunk (anonymous) as the orchestra raises him to heaven. The faint ghost image of a figure swims gradually to you through the grains of film low light…”

In 1757, the second year of the Seven Years' War, Frederick II the Great stands at the gates of Prague. None other than the famous master thief Andreas Christian Käsebier is to sneak into Prague to open the gates from the inside. As a reward, the king promises him freedom. Käsebier accepts the offer because he is tempted to steal an entire city. But by chance, Käsebier learns that the king wants to betray him. After a successful battle, he is put back behind bars for life. This doesn't suit the master thief at all, especially as he has just fallen in love with Katka in Prague.

A veteran lawman must escort a brutal and bloodthirsty bandit, Big Bill, back to the prison from which he escaped. However, the two protagonists are pursued by hostile forces: the prisoner's gang, and law enforcement officers, who are after Sanders on a murder charge. The meeting point is in a town where the local sheriff tries to fulfill his duty by hosting the prisoner while facing the pressures and fears of the townspeople.
