Cinematic Era: 1968 Vintage

An impressionistic and dissonant portrayal of short film making by a short film maker. The views expressed in the film are sometimes bitter, often humorous, at times satirical, but seldom complimentary.

Wealthy Shyam falls in love with Pammi, a jungle girl. Meanwhile, his cousin is plotting against him to secure the family inheritance and his mother is determined to get him married to another girl. When one of his cousin’s plots causes Shyam to lose his memory, it seems only Pammi can restore it.

The title Gewaltopia Trailer has a dual meaning in the Japanese language; one meaning for the word yokoku (trailer) could mean a compilation of extracts to promote a film, but it can also mean a prediction, a prophecy for the future as a Gewaltopia. The film accumulates footage from his earlier films and arranges them in different contexts, a characteristic style of Jonouchi's who often re-edited his films for each screening and provided different soundtracks.

Photographer and filmmaker Perry’s concise film-poem uses graphic matches (grapefruits, balloons and bubbles) to convey anxieties about fatherhood.

Artist/poet/novelist/singer Pip Proud was being feted in the media as an underground superstar at the time this experimental documentary was made. The film shows Pip’s reactions to automated, ritualised city life, using altered speed photography and, in some instances, incision and puncturing of the film stock.
