Staffan Stolle becomes the sole heir to a rich and noble family when he is just a little boy. Early on he is engaged to be married to a girl he finds he does not love. Instead he flees the country only to return under a false name, looking for true love.

But it soon becomes clear that the girl's husband had a mistress, and the mistress is the killer.

The near-sighted Mr. Magoo returns from a trip and mistakes a ramshackle shack, near his home, for his palatial home. When the wife is murdered, this crime seems to bring dubious happiness to the two of them - but it doesn't last long.
