Renowned newsman Walter Cronkite's stentorian pronouncement "You are there" -- an armchair witness to history's greatest moments -- greeted viewers of this popular television series that aired from 1953-1957. Hosted by the likes of Charles Collingwood and Mike Wallace, the show investigated key historical events as though they were breaking news. This chapter spotlights the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party.

The journey of two groups of people lost in the middle of the jungle while searching for a plane that crashed with an important cargo of gold and documents. The factory gate of the Leitz company twice: in 1953 and around 1915. "A factory gate study by Oskar Barnack. Revised and set to music by Paul Görnert," is how the film describes its theme in the opening credits: as in the famous film by the Lumière brothers, people stream out of the factory gate. The footage from 1953 shows Tower Block I, in front of which buses are waiting to take the workers home. The older images taken by Oskar Barnack in "Workers leaving the Leitz factory" were probably taken in 1915 in front of the gate of the old optics building.

This fifteen-minute sales film for CBS Radio was directed by Bobe Cannon, designed by T. Hee and Sterling Sturtevant, with backgrounds painted by Bob Mcintosh, Jules Engel, and Michi Kataoka. In 1954, Cannon directed a follow-up sales film for CBS Television called Tune in Tomorrow.

Confined to two sets, this vaudeville-style burlesque film was photographed by veteran cinematographer William C. Thompson and released during the decline of 3D movies in the 1950s.

"Security is Common Sense" was a PSA shown only to members of the military in 1953. The PSA talks about using common sense measures when dealing with government secrets and safeguarding top secret information. Marilyn Monroe makes a seductive cameo at the end and says, "I hate a careless man".

This operation conducted at the Nevada Test Site consisted of 11 atmospheric tests. There were three airdrops, seven tower tests, and one airburst. Conducted between March 17 and June 4, 1953, this operation involved the testing of new theories, using both fission and fusion devices. A new and revolutionary method of producing deliverable thermonuclear weapons was successfully tested. Approximately 21,000 Department of Defense military and civilian personnel participated in Operation Upshot-Knothole as part of the Desert Rock V exercise.

It is written and narrated from the point of view of Coney Island, New York’s landmark Ferris wheel, the Wonder Wheel, who takes us into and around the packed attractions, boardwalks, and beaches of New York City’s fabulous “Playground of the World.” Besides the Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone and Tornado rollercoasters are shown, as well as the Parachute Drop, Steeplechase, Whirl Way, Virginia Reel, and other rides. You’ll also see a balloon parade, fireworks, acrobats, beach sleepers, and a lost child.
